engine swap advice..... im new to this
hey guys... well im new to this so i dont no if im in the right area to be asking this question or not. if not could you please direct me to the right area.
ok, so i am considering some options for my first car. well, bottom line i am gettinig an rx7, i just dont know what option would be better.
i like the 3rd gen's best but under the new driving laws that have come out here the strongest rotary i can drive is a 12A. i was wondering if it would be possible to buy a 3rd gen rx7 without an engine and buy my friends 12A engine and put it in there. in doing so i will have the shape of the 3rd gen that i like and be able to drive it under the new laws. if this is possible could i please have some information on how to go about this.
or would it be easier to just buy a 1st gen rx7 and restore it.
thank you

yeah everyone who is on their open liscence or has their P plates before the new laws can drive what ever they want, but the new laws have just come in.
i get my P plates soon and they have put new laws in restricting you to drive certain strengths of cars.
on your P plates you are not allowed to drive a rotary engine stronger that 1146cc and that pretty much leaves you with a 12A.
so that stops me from driving a 3rd gen UNLESS i pout a 12A in it and then put a standard 13b back in it when i am on my open liscence.

To be honest, we need such laws here. They are basically restricting younger/first time drivers from high horsepower cars.
blonde-drummer-boy,
The swap wouldn't be a drop in replacement. You would be better off getting a 1st Gen and fixing it up. Then, when you have your open license you can look for a 3rd Gen.

Rotary for life!
Well g'day fellow australian haha. THe rules and regulations do suck!!! I'm from victoria and to my understanding, the 'green' p's do not exist... no turbo's etc... i'm only 18 and own a FD. Suprisingly... i'm yet to get pulled over... I don't beleive they know what it is... mines pretty much stock and I treat it like a baby so i'm never hooning around... I guess if your not too appealing, you won't get pulled over... but if you do!!! Look out lol. I have all the cops looking at my car... i've had cases where they have turned around... etc... cops drive behind, beside me... nothing... they just continue driving... taking in mind that I have debadged my FD. But if you do get a FD with a 13b... please becareful! They are serious cars... very quick and easy to lose control of!! Good luck!!!

It doesn't go by pisten or rotary... it goes by power to weight ratio... in our cases... we are only allowed to drive cars that have 125kw per ton... the FD is diffinately over that! But their are new laws that is being introduced that state, those who have their licence for the first year are not allowed to drive any form of turbo, v8, supercharged car... not that anyone actually obays these laws... but yeah.
