Engine Run-in First 1000 kms

Hi,
Just got my new engine.... the guy i bought it from said that i have to run it in 3000kms... the first 1000kms i cannot rev above 2000 rpms... the second 1000 kms not above 3000 rpms and the third 1000kms not above 5000kms..

I wanted to know can i for the first 1000kms just keep my car at idle parked in my garage for like 8-10 hours or maybe more?? just to fullfill the first 1000kms under 2000rpms thingy then i can run the engine in..i mean second 1000 kms under 3000 rpms and so on...

Can this be done... any other ideas...

thanks

Do not boost for the first 2000kms and keep it under 4000rpm's for the first 1000kms.

That should be fine.

When I got my new engine from KD Rotary they recommended no boost for 1000 miles, change the oil at 500 and 1000 miles. A few psi (like 3 or less) for the next 500 miles, then the occasional run to 6 or 7 psi for 500 miles, and change the oil at 2000 miles. After 2000 miles I was good to go.

Lots of people say thats overkill, and that after 500 miles the engine is as good as it's gonna get, but I thought better to be safe than sorry, and if being nice to the engine can help in any way, it's worth it.

Yep. Might as well just connect a cone filter right to the TB elbow, as staying under 0 psi is near impossible even with decent throttle control.

NO.

The car will have no load on it, and that's what it needs. Plus you really want the car to get some cooling from airflow.

Especially for the oil cooler(s), as there are no fans to cool them while the car is stationary.

I didn't think they had FDs in Pakistan.

Are you having issues with having to drive your car? I'm sure theres plenty of people in your area (even if you are in Pakistan) that'd be willing to take it out for an hour long cruise.

He's probably deployed in Pakistan. That has to suck. Just don't beat the hell out of your new engine and all will be fine.

not to mention....letting it idle in the garage is probably a death trap of carbon minoxide gas.

I was interested in this topic as well, since I am getting a new engine soon. Anyway, I did a search and found a pretty good thread you might want to read:
