engine removal/shortblock/possible build thread
Hi everyone,
I am planning on removing my engine and stripping the longblock down to the short block in order to ship it to ben for a rebuild. How difficult was it for people who actually did this already? Are there any tips and tricks you guys have for me? I did the vacuum hoses already and took off the rats nest so I saw the engine. Is this close enough to the engine removal procedures? I have been doing some research and found these links very helpful:
Rotary Resurrection home of the budget rebuild.

Are there anything that were on these links that you guys would like to tell me? How long do you guys think this will take/how long did it take you guys? I know I messed up while doing the rats nest because I lost a lot of screws and didn't put everything back on correctly. I plan on doing it correctly this time and fixing the missing screws.
I will probably post lots of pictures of my progress and eventually turn it into a build thread possibly?
I'll try to write everything down in detail and maybe someone can find this helpful later on.
Thank you for helping =).

FSM is your friend.
Lots of pics and documentation
Get a role of freezer tape and a sharpie to label things
GREAT time so modify, and simplify if possible. "Simplified twins/ Parallel twins"
GREAT time to clean fuel system, coat manifolds, install silicone vacuum lines, rewire fuel pump, clean or replace injectors, ditch FPD.... etc
Do as much research as possible. Create a list of your goals, and parts to buy. Be methodical and BE PATIENT. Getting impatient will always screw you in the end. You'll talk yourself into doing something "half" right and then regret it later. Don't set a "finished by this date" for your project. Let it flow and finish in due time.

Oh okay thank you. Do you guys know if any places rent out cherry pickers/engine stands? I tried calling winchester auto, autozone, and home depot to no avail. I will try a local tool rental shop tomorrow. I plan on starting this project this weekend. I need to make room in my garage. Is it safe to work on a slanted driveway with the car raised on jack stands/bricks on rear wheel?
