Engine Rebuild

Hey everyone imma new here but i have a couple questions because i am thinkin bout gettin an fd3s. Aight fo you guyz that have gone through the rebuild or getting a new engine i was wondering the average price that costs and the warranty that coems wit it. The engine is known to break around 80k miles and engines fires are their anymore cons to it? Also imma about 6'2 so ill prolly have a hard time getting in the car but is it like impossible or extremely uncomfortable? Hehe i would like to thank any1 that reads this and replys.

price can be 3000-7 or 8k depending on what you want in the motor and what else around it needs replacing

warranty is usually 1 year or 12000 miles most places

the fd needs to be watched over but its no big deal
main thing is to get a boost and water temp gauge and keep lookin at them

its hard to get into the car you can get racing seats and a smaller steerign wheel to help though

also one without a sunroof will have more headroom

Check this thread about fitting in the car:

Basically, you just need to find one local and sit in it to know for sure.

Costs on engine rebuilds vary greatly, depending on the route you go. Just rebuilding the engine, assuming all parts are within spec, is fairly inexpensive. But if you get a reman. from Mazda, and install that it gets pricey. Then if you want it ported, price goes up. $3-8K is a good guess though.

i rebuilt mine. i don't recall the exact cost off the top of my head. I think i figured with the R&R of the engine, KDR would come out to around $4500 (for a basic engine, no porting, etc...). My cost came out somewhere around $2000, by the time it was all said and done (that includes a new ACT clutch and resuface the stock flywheel).

As for it being hard, it was more time consuming than anything. i wouldn't want to do it again, let's put it that way.

is it worse than rebuilding a piston engine? the only problem there would be is if i opened one up to find that it needed machining. since there are no local shops it would almost be cheaper to buy a mazda remanu from jason.

I rebuilt my own. Total cost was about $2000 for a lot of stuff: rebuild kit, new clutch, resurface flywheel, porting templates, waterpump, plugs, coolant hoses...etc.

It's freaken' time consuming. Car was down for like 2 months. I don't wanna do it again. Actually...the R&R is longer than the rebuild. The rebuild is actually quite easy.

hmm. the reason i ask is that i am looking at a car that may have engine problems (he said it smokes alot (blue) ran rough and would not idle by itself) so i am trying to research what it could be before i make an offer. i know i will have to replace the engine eventually but if i can get around it now then i will have some more money saved for the remanu. i wouldnt have time right now to rebuild it myself now anyway. since i start back college in 3 weeks. i can get the link for the ad if you want to give your opinion. thanks.
