1200 miles on clutch and slipping...

I had a new ACT heavy duty clutch installed 1200 miles ago and it is slipping. I have made about 25 passes at the track. The car is making about 315 rwhp and just under 300 ft lbs of torque. Is it possible that I could have screwed up my clutch this fast or should I be pissed at my mechanic?

Did you give it the correct 500 mile break in period? I just got my ACT S/S in and I'am about done with the 500 mile break in.

yea, if you didn't break it in properly and just starting beating on it as soon as you got it, well then that's your problem, not your mechanics.

It had about a 400 mile break in period. My mechanic recommended 250 miles.

When you had the new clutch installed, did you replace or resurface the flywheel?

not too many people that drag race alot have the street disk most opt for the 6puck it lasts alot longer and can take much more heat. which is actually what kills the disk

A clutch needs atleast 200 city miles for break in and then easy on the highway. You also need the flywheel resurfaced as stated above.

A PROPER break in means everything.

The flywheel was resurfaced. What responsiblity do you think my mechanic should have? I spent $900 on the clutch and I am not excited about doing that again 3 months later

You spent 900 dollars on just the clutch itself or was that everything, labor, and resurfacing the fly?

Did you have him replace the rear main seal as well? Could the seal have gone, and now you're getting oil on your clutch? Unless you totally abused the clutch on your launches, that sounds a little premature to be slipping all on its own.

You may also have a cracked or damaged clutch release fork. You could remove the inspection plate on the trans and check for fluid contamination, and the clutch fork & throw-out at the same time.

The main seal was replaced. Totally abusing the clutch is relative. I launch the car at about 5500 to 6000 rpms at the track.

The $900 included everything.

I don't think you'll know until you get things apart and see what's failing. At that point, you can probably diagnose a bad install or something else.

most likely he just got the clutch really hot and the stock flywheel is iron so it can take a TON of heat before it warps.... the organic disk will just fall apart!
