Engine Info - 4lbs Vacuum at Idle

I fear my motor is blown. It runs, but is pulling only like 4-6 psi Vacuum at idle. When it ran correctly, it was like 14-16. Could this be a vacuum line problem, or a pure motor problem (apex seal or something). I would love any help or answers before I consider the motor Dead.

Hmmm, so since you didn't explain, I am taking it that the motor runs fine, and you are just seeing low vacuum correct?

yes, extremely low vacuum, the car will start and run, and if you go under boost, will still pull hard. I am just at a loss, happened when I was going about 80 down the Grand Central Parkway on a sunday morning to work, all off a sudden, had high end bog, and then the vacuum problem showed up. I am afraid to take to a local mazda RX7 shop, becuase they will probably tell me the motor is gone without even doing anything if I leave them the car. Can this really be a vacuum problem?

If the MAP sensor hose is still connected, it is almost certain that you need an engine rebuild. Lumpy idle and low and jumpy vacuum are sure signs of a broken seal. The car may still run fine once the revs are up; I ran a 13.3 @ 108 with two broken apex seals once.

Just out of curiousity (nothing related to particular problem) how many miles do you have on your engine?
