Engine hesitates and wont rev? Coincidence?

Since buying the car ive been getting a prob with the engine been reluctant to rev on full throttle? somtimes OK somtimes not, Dont know if what happened tonight was a coincidence The car was playing up and the radio was making a loud crackling noise, (this has been a on off prob has well) for some reason i didnt turn it off but knocked the volume down, after about 20 mls of the RX not wanting me to boot it and the radio/CD playing up, the radio decided to work ok, foot down no hesitating reved fine up the red line, Could this be a coincidence? Maybe a bad earth or somthing?

Hey leylandracer, sounds like you have a definite grounding problem with your radio, did you just recently replace it? My car use to do that too until I replaced my radio. Do you mean that if you stomped on the gas pedal, nothing would happen or would it kinda hesitate for a few seconds?

Sounds like bad ground or a short in the ignition system. I'd say ground, if you lose a ground or have a bad one it will try to use a positive wire to ground through or use another closer ground. Check the main ground to the engine block and the grounds on the main harness as well. If you have a workshop manual it will tell you the location of every ground wire. Good luck!

No, it will rev OK on part throttle, Full throttle it will hold back at 5k and above, the radio/CD is the origanal but the faults been there on and off from buying the car(4 weeks), i havent really had chance to use it much, But it just seemed a coincidence tonight?

like everyone else has said, it sounds like you have a problem with your radio's ground (i'm guessing that in the UK, it's called the radio's earth). i don't think that an aftermarket earthing kit will earth your radio. try driving your car without the radio on and see if that helps

I can almost guarantee you that it has something to do with the earthing kit you have. I'm planning on buying one. Can you post pics of the kit you have? I know this sounds silly but have you checked every connection you have on your earthing kit???

Disconnect the condensor from the igniter harness and see if you have any different behavior. If the condensor fails and shorts to ground you will get ignition pulses on the chassis ground which will wreak havoc on everything.

Could be the ground kit, but I'd start with a new set of plug wires. Bad wires will leak RF which will make the radio crackle and all kinds of crap, not to mention you'll be bigtime losing power and having trouble with the spark not getitng to the plugs.

Go ahead and get a new set of plug wires if they haven't been done recently - it's not expensive and it's a good idea.

Radio crackling like mad = there are probably ignition pulses getting shorted to ground. Check out your ground kit, and the condenser (when I first read the thread and suggested the condenser, I didn't see the bit about the ground kit).
