Engine Harness Routing Question

After much pulling, swearing, and rubbed knuckles, I got my old engine harness out. Time for rest and regrouping.

I need to know the best way to route the thick section of the harness (red) in the area behind the LIM and around the fuel and coolant lines.

I believe last time, it went under the (yellow) return fuel line, to the passenger side of the (blue) coolant line, and overtop the (orange) fuel line and FPD. But it wasn't a great fit. Should it go above both fuel lines?

Second, what does the green bracket bolt to? I have a metal bracket that looks like it should support it, but I don't know how that bracket bolts to the UIM/LIM.

It seems like your harness needs be moved back more towards the firewall. My reasoning behind this is directed primarily at the metal bracket you have circled in green. If that is the same bracket I think it is, it should be connected along the firewall near the brake ABS, heat shield. If you look in that area you should be able to find a threaded hole for a 10mm bolt where the extra bracket you have bolts up too. The bracket actually hangs off the small lip of the firewall, and the holes should match up. After thats done you should be able to connect the harness bracket (in green), to your newly mounted firewall bracket.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for taking a look.

Actually, there are two brackets like this. The bracket you're talking about is out of the picture and lined up with the hole (near the ABS).

off topic but you should cover the ports on your lower intake manifold, for routing the wiring harness check the FSM or download it from iluvmyrx7.com if you dont have one.

I couldn't find any decent diagrams in the FSM. That's why I'm posting here.

you have it the way it shows on page c-83 on the FSM if the coolant and fuel hoses are not kinked i would leave it the way you have it

Hmm, that picture doesn't show the answer, but I got to some very serious digging and found some answers in 'pieces'. It looks like the harness (red) is supposed to go above both fuel lines (yellow and orange).

The last one is from C-89, and I think it shows that.

I also noticed I'm missing the rear engine hook.

I think the harness bracket (green) attaches somehow to that or right near it.

I'll take a look at where that bracket bolts up at lunch for you Dave. I almost wanna say it bolts to the firewall.

Thanks. Can you also peek in there and see if the harness enters the rats nest overtop of both fuel lines?

Waaaha!

The pics in this thread confirm it. I need to re-route the harness to ride above both fuel lines.

[edit: this isn't right. see last post]

Later,

Dave

I believe that bracket pictured bolts to the stud that is on a bracket for the fresh air pipe to the cat.

If you removed that pipe then the bracket and attached stud may have gone with it. Search around on the LIM a little.

Yes, the harness goes under the fuel lines, it is the first thing put on the motor as it lays directly on top of the block.

Sorry for the slow response. That harness bracket is part of the 2 pipes that come around the intake manifold for the air pump supply and relief air. Attached are 2 pics - hopefully that will help a bit .

Well I got it back together, and came inside to see these responses.

I did route the harness overtop both fuel lines, since that resembled the FSM the most. But it was a tight fit - next time the UIM is off, I'm pulling the rear fuel line and running the harness in between them.

Because my harness routed over the fuel lines, it was too high to match up with the bracket. And like Dale's pic shows that bracket bolts onto the studs of a secondary air pipe connection (the one on top going to the air pump).

I don't see how the harness can go under the FPD - there's less than an inch of clearance under that.

Well today I noticed a vacuum line I missed. Pulled the UIM, looked at that harness again. Pulled the top fuel line and moved the harness between them - a much better fit. I'm positive (now having tried it in both orientations) that the harness fits best going above the fuel line that goes to the FPD/Primaries and below the return fuel line, and to the passenger side of the engine coolant hose.

As well, now I can bolt the harness in that bracket just like it's shown on Dale's car.
