engine change
Well I'm going to rebuild my engine because I blew mine. But I need to know if I should put something under the tranyy to prevent dropping it, can somebody tell me what to do?

I agree with Mahjik, but if you decide not to, get an engine stand under it or something to hold it up. Don't use a jack because you just can't trust that its gonna keep it up, you never know what may happen.

How do you get an engine stand under the tranny?
You do have to support the tranny if you pull just the engine. I just did this a few months ago, and REALLY, if you can pull both together, DO IT. Trying to mate the engine to the tranny with the tranny in is a total *****. Note: if you DO pull just the engine, when you go to put it back in, DON'T put the motor mounts onto the engine until the engine is mated to the tranny. The best is to mate the engine and tranny, lift them up, slide the mounts into their respective holes and loosely bolt them to the subframe, then lower the engine and line up the bolts to mount the mounts to the engine. Do all of this kind of quickly with plenty of silicone around the bolt heads (for the attachment to the engine) and around the top and bottom of the mounts themselves where they mount to the engine.
So it goes like: Mate engine & tranny, lift them up, slide each motor mount into subframe holes, start the nuts that attach the mounts to the subframe (don't forget the washers), run a ring of silicone around the oil pan bolt holes for the mounts, lower the engine/tranny until they just touch the mounts, hold a mount to the oil pan, run a bead of silicone around the bolt hole on the motor mount, then run the bolts in, torque them down to the engine, lower the engine onto the subframe, and torque the mounts to the subframe. Total PIA!!! No leaks so far though... (crosses fingers)

It will also make trying to line up the shaft much easier during the reinstall.

I would definately pull the engine and tranny together. The only additional work to get the tranny out is dropping the PPF, driveshaft, clutch slave and the connections to the starter and switches on the tranny. It more than makes up for it when it's time to mate the engine and tranny back together. Don't forget to drain the tranny lube or you'll make a swell mess when you pull the driveshaft!

I have already loosend the bolts. But how much time would be the difference between getting both out or only the engine?
SO I only have to unbolt the driveshaft, and PPF, (have the other parts off already) and drain the box?

Pull the engine and trans together...
Spurvo has it pretty much right.
This is what you should pull out of the car. Engine, trans, turbos, starter, DP/pre-cat, with two wiring harnesses attached.
It is much easier to do everything with the engine OUT of the car.

Ok, so another question..
I was one of the guys who pulled the engine and left the tranny in the car.
How hard is it to pull the tranny out now and mate it to the engine before install? Should be pretty easy right? Thanks..

Yeah, I almost did that when I was putting the engine back in the first time and the tilting bridle was twisting the engine counterclockwise and theinput shaft was not sliding home and the motor mounts were getting in the way and... you get the picture.
It shouldn't be that hard to pull, just disconnect the things they mention above, lift the front end real high, and slide it out the front?

Leave the tranni in the car. It's easy to disconnect the tranni from the motor. You don't even need anything to hold the tranni up. The tranni will rest on the engine subframe. You guys are wasting time by pulling the tranni. Justin, I'll put your motor in for you. I owe you.

Leave tranny in car = pull starter and disconnect the wiring from starter and tranny. Deal with disconnecting the tranny from the engine IN THE car. Top trans bolt is sorta hard to get at. Clutch snap ring is harder to remove on your back under the car. Deal with aligning the engine and trans on reinstallation.
Take tranny out with engine = pull shifter (7 nuts), remove driveshaft (4 bolts). Do everything else with tons of light and room around.
Simple choice.
How's that 4 link coming Resource?

That's how I did it. I was just curious because the clutch line is pretty tight with the tranny sitting on the subframe... I put a jack under it just in case.
Appreciate the offer for the help. That'll be awesome. Especially with some **** Creek and Coke.

I learned all that when I pulled it.. It was kind of a bitch... I had never done it before, but it wasn't too bad. Last engine I pulled was with the tranny attached. 2nd gen though. It was fairly easy. Thanks for all the input!
