Engine Bay Harness
Hey people,
I just got done searching through the forum and I found some great threads on rebuilding the engine harness. Like many of you, as I am putting my engine back in after a rebuild, I am finding that some connectors are dried and cracked. I do not think I have the patience or the time to rebuild my harness completely but I was hoping that I could just splice in (solder really) good connectors.
Reading through the threads some posts mentioned that the injector connectors are actually pretty common and that I should be able to get them off of MX-6, Probes, etc.? Anyone have any experience on this? I called up Malloy for a quote on a new harness but the person helping me was not sure they were looking at the right part number. Does anyone know what the Mazda P/N would be for the entire harness? Anyone have any other great ideas other than spending ~$900 for a new harness?
Thanks.
Tony

Dont own an FD?
seriously though dude...i know what your saying about the harness but with things as tetchy as that i say if it aint broke dont fix it. Dont go cutting and splicing and soldering wires because i can see it easily causing more harm than good!
If you want to make it better, buy a new one!

Yeah you pretty much got it. It's a real bitch!, but if you got time and patients you should be able to get this done in a couple of days, its definetly a savings over the $900 Mazda charges for a new harness. Just pretty much pull as many connections off the Ford Probes or MX-6 especially the ones off the injector plugs, this type is used on about 50% of the plugs, get some wire automitive grade you'll probably need a few feet, a solder pack, heat shrinking material whatever you think you'll need to do a good job, 2 packs of electrical tape, I also used that plastic tubing stuff for wires got both a thick and small kind. Make sure you have the wiring diagrams and you should be ready to go.
If you folded the harness in half the half nearest the cab will be good and flexible. The other half leading to the engine is where they start to crack and get hard, that is the problem with heat and age.

Thanks ppl.
I know I, more than likely, will need to fork over the cash for the new one soon. However, in the mean time, I am hoping the Probe and/or Mx-6 connectors will get me back on the road sooner. Does any one know the Mazda P/N for the new harness?
Thanks again.
Tony.
