The AST on mine was eliminated before I got it and runs just fine as far as temps go. I only have a stock gauge but the needle pretty much stays right in the middle, with maybe a little fluctuation towards hot when in stop and go.

Lots of people have done it without any problems and if there is a how-to from a respected source on eliminating it then I don't think there's a problem. The elimination is just to get rid of a poorly designed part that is a very common failure point, but since you already have a metal one and not the stocker you can just leave it alone.

I have done it on over 30 cars over the years with no ill effects, I see no need to keep those things as it is just asking for more trouble with a cooling system that already doesnt have the greatest track record over the years.

As I said in a previous post, it eliminates a failure spot. The car will run just fine without it so he's just saying that getting rid of it will reduce the chances of failure in your cooling system.

I wouldn't take it off if you plan to track the car. But for street your probably fine without it. Just make sure its a quality AST so it won't fail.

aight so heres the latest..... i eliminated the AST. i did NOT use the 2nd gen filler neck, in fact i eliminated both the ast AND the over flow tank and only have the the two hoses to the raditor and back into the engine... i have a PFC w/ a commander and ive been monitoring my water temps. i keep a constant 81 degrees at low rpms ( 1700ish - 3000ish ) at no boost. once i allow boost to come in and the rpms go up to maybe 5000 the highest. the temp jumps to 83 degrees and stays there!!! i can hit red line, boost , u name it and it stays at 83 degrees. after the car has been running for about an hour the temps. slowing go up NOT passing 86 degrees. i have the greddy water pump pulley, greddy rad. cap, koyo radiator, new radiator hoses and i mixed my own mixture of wate and water-wetter ( about a 90-10 ratio ) what do you guys think....please comments and opions are welcome.

also how do u guys feel about the over flow tank gone. i mean i really found no purpose for it there ya kno. i was thinking if i to take it out of the car completely i'll run my intake to where it was for much cooler air. its still in the car just not hooked up in anyway, what do u think?

The overflow tank is to relieve pressure in the coolant system. I wouldn't run without you're running Evan's NPG+ or some other 0 PSI coolant. If the pressure gets too high, it could blow a hose or a coolant seal.

I do have my AST deleted and am running a Koyo N-Flow radiator and I'm seeing about the same temps as you, 80-85, though they get a little higher when I'm cruising because I don't have an undertray.

Yeah, it's pretty special. It boils at like 375 degrees.

I have wanted to delete my AST for a while but I'm delaying it because it is getting pretty hot and I like the extra coolant the system holds because of it.
