Electrical problem

electrical problem
a friend of mine was jumping my car the other day and when he took the cables of the donor car he touched them together.now the cables were still attached to my car and it was running and when he shorted the cables the car just instantly shut down.now i still have lights and all the accessories are working ,but now the problem that i have is weird and i cannot figure it out. with the key in the run position and the clutch pedal up the starter slowly rotates the engine by it self w/the key not even on the start position. oh of course it wont start either. ive disconnected every fuse and relay , i even disconnected the computer and the same thing keeps happening w/the motor slowy turning. it seems like the only things left are the ignition switch or the starter. any suggestions fellow 7 owners would be greatly appreciated.thanks

take neg battery cable off, hold brake for 20+ sec. reconnect. try to start it...then get back to us.
probably not going to work, but it will reset your ECU, if some funky codes were thrown...
It does sound like an ignition switch/starter problem, if it's turning slowly.
Can you roll start the car?

Just a thought.......you may want to check the contact switch located on the clutch pedal to see if it got fried and is not disengaging correctly? It sounds like power is being sent to the ignition switch even though the clutch pedal is not pressed......

These cars act very strange when the voltage gets on the low side any way. Just curious but what was the reason for the jump start ? Not driven for awhile, battery needed replacing, alternator not working ???? Granted the voltage spike generated by the cable ends would have been enough to cause electrical problems if the battery was good then the problem may have already been there. Jack

battery was dead .car has been sitting in my garage for a little while.no previous electrical problems.could the ignition switch itself be burned out?all the fuses were good thats why i am baffled.thanks for your help.cliff

You put in the new battery and things are cool now, but i'm willing to bet that you have a constant power drain somewhere, and that this bettery will eventually end up behaving like the old one.
I saw a wiring diagram somewhere. I will go look for it.

You may want to start with the fuel pump relays, there are two of them...one in the fuse panel near the radiator and one in the drivers side fender. If Im not mistaken, the one at the fender supplies initial power to the one at the front of the car. It , in turn regulates the power going to the pump. Sounds like one or both are fried...
