Dual oil Coolers and A-spec oil pan Question.

well this doesn't so much have to deal with the new oil pan, i just have to call and figure out how much more oil than stock it holds.

but as for the dual oil coolers, i just bought a new set from mocal, and was wondering how i should start the car after i install them. IE just crank the motor and let it put new oil in the coolers, then shut it off and refill the quart i just lost? what is the best way to get oil into the coolers initially?

thanks,
harrison

The A-spec holds about 1 quart more than stock. The additional oil cooler will hold another quart. Total about 8 quarts (6 pan and 2 for the coolers).

It should be okay with just leaving them dry as there is more than enough oil in the pan for the engine at idle, and filling up the oil coolers. At warm-up the thermostat routes it back into the engine instead of the oil coolers. But if you want to be on the safe side, you should try and prime the coolers (this is what I plan to do). This may be a little bit messy but I would take the inlet hose on each oil cooler, a small funnel and put as much as you can in each and then tighten the hoses back on.

Anytime you're worried about the oiling system, remove your egi fuse and crank the engine severa times, amounting to about 30-45 seconds of cranking. This builds oil pressure just like the engine were running at speed, however rpm's are so low that if there is no oil flow for some reason no damage will be done. However, until the thermostats in the oil coolers open when the oil heats up, you won't have the system totally full anyway.

I use this procedure when cranking any engine rebuild or swap.
