EGT sensor in OEM lambda bung

I'm using a LC1 WB kit so my OEM lambda bung is free. is it a good spot to locate a EGT sensor?

Are there any EGT sensors/kits that are a direct fit in that location? (bung threat wise)

thx

If there wasn't, there are countless numbers of adapters available for you to use, you just have to find the right size.

is it a good spot....yes and no

yes because you already have the hole if you have no fab equipment and dont have to take anything off. Just get say a o2 plug and have it drilled and tapped for the NPT of the egt bung and thread it in relativly cheap.

and the flip side of the coin. NO its not a good spot unless you just want another pretty gauge to stare at.... most people get an EGT for tunning purposes that being said the location has everything to do with what temp you will see if your just using it for a reference for YOUR car yes it will work. If your using it to get your temps and then tune them to say someone elses temps NO it will not work for you as someone else may have there sensor in a different location for instance howard coleman i believe has his preturbo in the manifold 2 inches from the exhaust ports his temps will be extremely different than your post 6in from turbo/turbos. if you were to try and get his temps you would destroy your turbo maybe even your engine.

Idea is to use it for tuning. I'm not looking after just another gauge (I monitor everything on the PFC commander except AFR's)

So the sensor would be best in the manifold itself, between exhaust ports and turbo?

My turbo's are full non seq so I could fab something up where the big flapper pin (cooenction to ext wastegate arm) used to be.

idealy it should be pre turbo in the collector, if you want to get crazy you can get a dual egt and one for each runner, this will vaify if each rotor is equal.

you could do that but you would only be monitoring 1 rotors EGT the rear if i remember right where that hinge is located also wouldnt be ideal as its in a cast manifold for one (retains heat) and not in direct exhaust flow. now that we know what your turbo setup is it seems your best bet would be to mount it in the downpipe as close to the turbos as possible (mine is right next to the flange). much easier than the manifold for fab work if everything is already mounted. not to mention alot of people monitor temps there making it easier for you to get temps to tune to.

it just seemed like you were trying to get away with the cheapest non-fab way from the original post.

post 3 is spot on.

if your objective is to use your egt gauge for tuning you need it to be preturbo. there are various numbers floating around the forum about the pre/post diff but they are inaccurate to the extent of being dangerous.

the diff fluctuates greatly w TPS. the diff fluctuates w the location of the post egt.

finally, this is the 21st century. digital is everything. your egt should be translated from the thermocouple using a solid state mini-circuit using an AD595 chip. they are around $40. log it log it log it.

EGTs may be the least appreciated tuning device. recently on the dyno we had our AFRs locked in the spool area. looking at the egts, they were 150 degrees too cold. we advanced the timing in that area and gained so many good things.

if you didn't have the LOGGED data you would have missed it.

Thanks @ all for your input.

I consider an EGT sensor because the number of tuners in my area (read country) is enxt to none. Or at least those white rotary experience. As my engine is brand new I don't mind the cost af an EGT sensor to know that my tune is safe but effective.

I have some manifolds to spare so I'm going to have another look at it.
