efini Y pipe without air pump removal?????
Just spent a good amount of time removing the stock pipe with the air pump on but the larger flange & bolts from what I can tell make the efini pipe impossible to install with the air pump.
Can someone with wisdom explain if this can be done - and more importantly - how?? I've loosened the rear pipe to the turbo, but the challenge is the flange getting into position..
those who know how to remove the air pump - can you tell me which bolts and how the hell I'm supposed to determine proper tension upon reinstallation????
Thanks!

Airpump has 2 bolts. The obvious one on the top... And one underneath, to the right... Holds the tention bracket on... The bolt to loosen the tention, is under to the left. It's easier is you loosen that one too.

Upon re-installation. I just pull the pump so the belt is tight. NOT TOO TIGHT THOUGH!! You'll kill the pump. Put a good turn on them with a ratchet. The TOP BOLT IS THE LONG ONE AND WILL SNAP EASILLY!!! Be careful with that one.

I got the efini y-pipe in without removing the air pump. It is possible, but considering the time I spent trying to get it in I might as well have just removed the air pump.
edit: there's another thread about this here

LAracer - - I was looking for a way to loosen the pipes to the airpump as well, but they were not readily apparent. Could you share with me where the bolts are?
Thanks!

Couldn't find a very good pic, and my memory is foggy on exactly where those pipes bolt onto (anyone help me out!). But here is something, which may or may not be better than nothing. This picture basically shows the pipe that we are talking about, and all I can say without a better pic is to follow the pipe as far back as it goes, and you'll eventually feel where it bolts to the manifold. I *think* there are two bolts. Not very big (10mm? or smaller?).
Can anyone else help me out with this?

My memory's kinda foggy too, as it was a while ago when I installed it (with the airpump still on). Yeah, I'm pretty sure there's one or two 10mm bolts holding the metal piping onto the block. Follow the hose to the piping, and that's where the bolt(s) are. You'll need a swivel extension on your ratchet to get to it; if I recall correctly, you can barely see the bolt(s) if you stick your head close to the ABS pump. Once you remove the bolt(s), you can pull the piping out, which gives you enough slack to move the air pump paraphenalia out of the way to get the Y-pipe in. It's still kind of a tight fit, however; I recall there was one hose from the pump that you have to slip the Y-pipe past. You're gonna have to use a little muscle to get it in, but be careful you don't pinch the hose too much.

Hey guys - thanks for the input. I just yanked the air pump two bolts no brainer.
Marked the location of the tension bolt and was done with it - busted a bolt to the first turbo, but hey wtf..

Not so much the restiction---
The efini pipe doesn't expand and move like the plastic one so you get better boost. Boost comes up and down so quick, like a yoyo, the expansion of the plastic y-pipe can take some away by expanding when the boost comes up quickly. The metal inifin one doesn't expand, pushing all the boost to the intake.
Hope that helps.
