Cool Efini Y pipe install.... COMPLETED.

It took me 5 hours to do this job..

The air pump wouldnt come off with the 2 bolts... so I had to take the belt off.

the intake pipes off.....

all in all.. it was worth it..now I just gotta change my one way check valve.. will call Ray.

I am not sure if its all in the head but umh..

the throttle response feels much better now.
Havent seen any boost go up...
but its worth it.

THANKS everyone for helping out.

wow that took you a long time I don't remember it being difficult

also it probably has a little gain but it's not noticeable
Did you run out of bolt ons to add or something lol? What was your main reason for adding this mod?

Mazda claimed an additional 10 HP when they changed to this pipe on the 96 FD. It is a worthwhile mod. My boost went up 3 psi with the intallation of the efini pipe and my "Cheap Bastard Intake mod". There was a huge gain in power. I would say that the y-pipe had to be responsible for a at least 1 psi on my install.

To remove the air pump, first you loosen the belt adjustment, remove the belt, then remove the air pump. You probably know that now. It took me less than 2 hours to install mine, and I am no expert.

took me forever to take the damn air pump off...
I got the notes on the air pump with 2 bolts.

I took the two bolts off.. then I had to loosen it... the belt wouldnt come off..so i had to loosen the alternator and take the belt off that way.

then I had to take the intake pipes off...

then the radiator hose from the air pump cracked so I ahd to get a new one...

it wasnt too bad. lucky the weather was cool.

Snook: I got the mod with pipe because my stock ones were leaking oil.

so im in the middle of the y-pipe/vacuum line job.... waiting on parts. was it hard to get the old y pipe out? there are 2 nuts holding the pipe that comes from one of the turbos to the o-ring side of the y pipe. how do you get to these nuts? do i have to jack up the car? thanks

If you have a downpipe it's easy to get those two bolts from under the car. If you still have the pre-cat, it's easier from above I think. You need small hands though.

small hands i have... downpipe no. unfortunately CA smog wouldnt like a down pipe very much. ok from the engine compartment it is... there just doesnt seem like enough room to do much of anything back there. so basically i just unscrew those 2 bolts and pull the pipe backwards? how about the gasket? to replace or not.... i think corksport gave me one.

he said 2 nuts and a bolt...

they are ALL NUTS.....

two atleast ONE has to be from the bottom up..u can see it if u stare down on the BACK side of the intake pipe..the other from the front. THEN there is abother one(nut) for the BOTTOM intake pipe which u can do from the top.

the upper intake hose should be PULLED OUT of the engine bay NOT from under neath.
then there is ANOTHER NUT to take off.. a total of four.

take the bottom intake pipe off and u can pull the bottom y pipe off with the rubber o ring.

that makes sense?

yeah it makes more sense now. i didnt think there were so many things to take off. sucks that mazda didnt make the o-ring side bolt on instead of slide in... i bet the o-ring doesnt seal as well as a bolt on gasket would have. anyway when i separate the pipe from the turbos do i change that metal gasket?

If your gasket has welded itself to the pipe like mine did I would go ahead and replace it. If it doesn't flake, and still has the rubber coating on it I would reuse it.

I think they have a black coating that's some sort of polymer. It's probably not rubber, but that's always the way I think of it. Maybe teflon or something.
