The Y-pipe looks greatly improved over the previous design, looks like a better fit and looking inside there seems to be less restriction.

Yes, I cant wait to get my car back together... so many upgrades it will be a totally differant car!

Sorry...I thought Fredericksburg didn't have emissions?? "If your vehicle is garaged in the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, or Stafford, or the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas, or Manassas Park, your vehicle must meet the emissions inspection requirements." Is Fredericksburg in one of those counties??

Also, just giving ya a head's up that the y-pipe install requires removal of the airpump to get to the y-pipe (you can put it back obviously). I just didn't know that when I first went to do it myself... you'll need an impact gun to get the nut off, too.

 

Which nut are you referring to? I did the 12v relay fix for my EGR not to long ago, which requires removing the y-pipe and I didn't need any impact tools. Probably would have made it easier though.

 

The one holding the airpump. OMG that thing was torqued hard. But in my case, cuz I was doing the pulleys as well, the one on the pulley, obviously since the pulley rotates freely, so it's very hard to apply torque in two diff directions at the same time

 

Yea airpump removal was a breeze on my car, medium sized ratchet made short work of it.

 

Hmm, that's interesting. I live in Spotylvania county officially even though my address is Fredericksburg. I'll ask around and find out, if I can get away with it, I'll pull the bastard, then I can do the simplified sequential hose job too. Thanks for the info Ramy

 

Joey, that's LAW. I pulled that quote off of the VA DMV website. No if's and's, or but's, so there's no reason you'd have to get emissions on your vehicle. I PMed you some additional info btw

Yea that bolt is PITA. It's even more annoying when you're putting the air pump back in trying to get everything lined up.

As far as the rest of the y pipe install goes I'd say the only difficult part is getting at the nuts on the secondary inlet if you have the precat still. Other then that it's pretty straight forward. Good luck.

 

If you get an Efini Y-pipe (esp. used), make sure you get all the gaskets (there should be three of them), and an O-ring.

Also, since you need to remove the rear turbo inlet duct, I would replace that gasket, esp., if it is the original "blue" paper gasket. These have been updated. PN# N3A1-13-712 (about $5).

Check your turbo coolant hoses while you're down there (pn#s N3A1-13-162 and N3A1-13-536, about $13 for both from Mazdapartscheap.com).
