Efini Y-Pipe or Greddy Elbow?

The wife wants to get me a xmas present for the car, and I've narrowed it to these 2. I'm leaning towards the Y-pipe, any suggestions? I also have hard pipes on my wish list, but I thought the y-pipe would be something to ask for first.

efini y-pipe = power
GReddy elbow = bling

Polished Efini Y-Pipe = Power AND Bling! :)

legal-z 12-04-04 09:50 AM

you're leaning the right way imo.

The greddy elbow only need to be used if you get an intercooler that won't work with your stock elbow. Get the Efini y-pipe. Its an obvious choice :)

WHO 12-04-04 10:12 AM

Yep, the y-pipe!
It's going to be my next addition too.

Section8 12-04-04 10:45 AM

So the elbow doesn't improve airflow huh? guess I was mistaken about that part then.

Thanks guys, I know what to tell her now :)

I think my father-in-law is getting me a roll bar too! I've been good this year!

vel525 12-04-04 11:51 AM

tell her to get you the y-pipe and get yourself that elbow for some bling :D

ROTORhead93 12-04-04 12:29 PM

get the y pipe

speeddemon7 12-04-04 01:58 PM

you gain anywhere from half to maybe 1 psi from the y pipe.Depending whether or not you have a leak.

widebody2 12-04-04 02:40 PM

I never upgraded my y-pipe so I can't speak from experience but I would get an exhaust or an intake before the y-pipe. I just put an aftermarket coupler on mine and had no issues with leaks...I actually didn't even before that but did it just for the heck of it. I would get the $45 ebay hard pipes and K&N filters.

Well, the exhaust is a bit much for a single present, she's already spent money on other present too, so $500 for the RB dual tip i want is out.

I'll just tell her the Y-Pipe.

Wow, you must have nice in-laws! :bigthumb:

Oh, and get the y-pipe. Power gains>bling

Plus with the y-pipe you wont have to worry about the coupler splitting and causing a boost leak.

Adam Berger 12-04-04 05:27 PM

the y pipe works with the greddy fmic right? or do i have to get it extended?

MRomano 12-08-04 01:44 AM

hey wondering where can u get an efini y pipe...and about how much would it cost...thanks

ROTORhead93 12-08-04 01:47 AM

MRomano, most places sell the y pipe, should be around 240, here it is at rx7store

I have a brand new one that I won't be using. If anyone is interested, please PM me.

KaiFD3S 12-08-04 12:40 PM

y-pipe get's my vote too...

dubulup 12-08-04 12:43 PM

you're going to go single at some point...get the elbow :D

turbo edy 12-08-04 01:09 PM

screw the y pipe. go single. new exhaust manifold completely. gains for y pipe are very very minimal.
im sure you sequential die hards will have a field day here.

Section8 12-08-04 02:18 PM

Haha, I doubt I'll ever go single, but if I were to do so, it'd be a long time from now anyway.

dubulup 12-08-04 04:13 PM

I give you two years tops :hahaha:

I can't verify the increase in 1 psi myself from putting on an efini y-pipe, but I've heard many who claimed that (I have a PFC, so it wouldn't let me boost higher than what it's set at). But, I can tell you the car pulled MUCH stronger when I put it on. It felt like there was new spark in her life lol. Or maybe that's the HKS Twin Power that I put on @ the same time lol...but in any case, my vote's for the y-pipe. Just keep in mind you're gonna have to take off the airpump to get to the y-pipe, which means you might as well get rid of the airpump and get a Greddy Pulley Set while you're at it ;)

What would that do for my emissions here in VA if I pulled the air pump off entirely? Would the car still pass?

onefast3gen 12-09-04 07:28 AM

ID say put the money away and save up to go single. Thats what im gonna do when im done with my body kit and paint job.
