Because the metal part on yours connects to a rubber hose, which is a weak link, in that the hose cracks, and is one of the more common boost leaks. The Efini pipe is all metal untill you get closer to the IC, and it takes one less thing to troubbleshoot under the hood, and can be polished, and made to look nice.

The Efini version replaces the coupler between the y-pipe and the crossover tube with a bolted flange. The BOV nipple has been moved out of the airflow path. The crossover tube is metal. All are desirable things, but the Efini y-pipe is hardly a must-have upgrade.

Na for real, I thought the efini y-pipe flows better than the stocker, to the point that people have experienced an "extra" psi after installing it (assuming no boost controller) ?

Mazda claims a 10 HP increase with the addition of this pipe, and no other changes.

It causes boost leaks too? Mine was cracked so I just replaced the rubber coupler with an oem one from mazda for about $40 and I was wondering why my car seemed to pull harder. You think that was it? The only other mod I did at the time was an HKS intake elbow and i didn't think that would do much performance wise.

By the way, I see an awful lot of untaped openings on that engine. I assume you won't mind if a load of gravel gets dumped on top of that baby. In other words, your swapping engines, right?
