The stock ones, have rings to attach a hose, Efini's have bolts to the top and bottom, to attach a metal pipe.

The stock "crossover pipe" that attaches to the Y-pipe is plastic...the Efini Y-pipe has a metal "crossover pipe" that attaches to the Y-pipe with two bolts.

You are confusing the plastic elbo that attaches to the throttle body. You and your car are totally stock!

Because the metal part on yours connects to a rubber hose, which is a weak link, in that the hose cracks, and is one of the more common boost leaks. The Efini pipe is all metal untill you get closer to the IC, and it takes one less thing to troubbleshoot under the hood, and can be polished, and made to look nice.

Yes, the coupler and/or crossover are known to crack - that is the main reason (happened to me). Mazda also improved the design to flow a little bit better with the Efini y-pipe.

The Efini version replaces the coupler between the y-pipe and the crossover tube with a bolted flange. The BOV nipple has been moved out of the airflow path. The crossover tube is metal. All are desirable things, but the Efini y-pipe is hardly a must-have upgrade.

That, and the bling factor since most ppl sell 'em polished haha.

Na for real, I thought the efini y-pipe flows better than the stocker, to the point that people have experienced an "extra" psi after installing it (assuming no boost controller) ?

It causes boost leaks too? Mine was cracked so I just replaced the rubber coupler with an oem one from mazda for about $40 and I was wondering why my car seemed to pull harder. You think that was it? The only other mod I did at the time was an HKS intake elbow and i didn't think that would do much performance wise.

The Efini pipe does flow better than the stocker. I installed an efini pipe at the same time as my modded stock airbox. My boost jumped 3 psi. I can't say for sure how much was due to the y-pipe.

Mazda claims a 10 HP increase with the addition of this pipe, and no other changes.

Let's see does a car getting full boost or a car venting it's boost to atmosphere make more power...

By the way, I see an awful lot of untaped openings on that engine. I assume you won't mind if a load of gravel gets dumped on top of that baby. In other words, your swapping engines, right?

Well it wasn't like it had a gaping hole in it, the only reason I new that it was leaking was because of the oil that slowly seaped down the bottom of the y-pipe.
