ECU Upgrade Questions

I own a 93 Rx-7 with the following mods:
dp, mp, cb, smic
Currently my car is most likely running lean.
I'm interested in buying a pettit unlimited ecu or possibly a PFS purple box.
Is the pettit unlimited tuned with chips for mods? Is cold air intake one of the chips that is offered?
If so, would it make sense to get an inexpensive used intake when buying the pettit unlimited?
How do these pre-tuned systems ensure that my car will not run lean or rich?
Is the pettit unlimited ok to run with a midpipe?

Does anyone own the PFS purple box with a midpipe?
I talked to someone at PFS and he told me that he doesn't suggest running a midpipe with the purple box.

What ecu upgrade would you guys think is the best for my mods and for mods in the future?

THANKS

Why use old technology, instead go with the Greddy PFC and Commander.

The Pettit insures non lean by runing rich AFRs. A friend turn 12.5 quaters with a stock block but modded intake and exhaust. But you can't tune for optimum or even better performance.

The PFS purple is outdated compared to the PFC. I had an early purple and it was junk. Now I am very happy with the PFC.

You mean the Apexi Power FC is old technology? I thought you were using this, Chuck? Should I look into a Greddy? I just bought a brand new Apexi Power FC from Dave Barninger of KD Rotary. It will go with my new ported motor, JDM Type RS/RZ twins, Greddy 2-row FMIC...

The Pettit-style modified ECU *can* be tuned, but good luck finding someone who can or will do it.

Thumbs up http://www.first-inc.co.jp/buddyclub/m_news.htm

There is another choice that no one has looked at because everyone is afraid of being the so called ginny pig (don't blame them though). Anyhow Buddy Club makes a ECU similar to the PFC (without commander) for 1/2 the price from jt-imports. You purchase the software (similar to datalogic for PFC)and you tune it with a lap top. They are better know for Type R civic and Acura's but the do make stuff for the FD. There is no direct importer for them that I know of like there is for Apexi but they are well respected in Japan.

The PFS(Purple) is outdated, the PFC(Greddy) is new.

Go back and re-read my original comments.

Hell, now I'm confused. PFC=PowerFC, no? Mine is by Apexi. Did Greddy buy it out or something or is this a competing product ?

I think you are confused, that is unless GReddy came out with a Power FC and Commander otherwise its Apexi who makes that unit.

"lol" Well, the Apexi PFC is also made for the Civic and so is their suspension, exhaust, etc. Don't think Apexi is exclusive to the RX-7, it's not.

Yes Buddy Club races Civics, but they also work with NSX, EVO, 350Z, S2000, etc.

It looks like it's in adition to the ECU and not a replacement. It says it can control a 2nd fuel pump. They also make a version for the Auto.

wait... GReddy makes a PFC with some sort of commander? This is the first I have heard of this.

I am assuming it's not a typo since you repeated it twice. How does it compare to Apex'i units?

Apexi PFC, not Greddy PFC is what my confused mine ment. Either way the PFS PMC purple is still old technology compared to the PFC.

I'm 17 and do not have a job right now while still in school and approaching mid terms. I can't afford the Apexi PFC. I need to buy something used that will even out my air/fuel ratios and give me the safety to run at the boost levels I'm at. I'm looking at pettit and PFS because I can buy one used for around $450 as opposed to over $1000. Please give advice on inexpensive ECUs.
