ECU or IC?

I know, I know...SEARCH. I did, there's just somthing reassuring about hearing it again. My current mods are, M2 intake, PFS cat back, DP, Fluidyne(sp?) radiator and replaced vaccum lines. So, should I go with an ECU or IC next? My reasoning is, get the ECU then the IC (reliability then tack on performance) I was thinking of the Pettit Unlimited, since my mods aren't that extreme yet. Please, don't tell me "buy the PFC", I don't need that yet, but maybe I'm wrong?

Thanks,

Mike

I vote for an IC as long as you can consitently keep your boost below 11 psi.

My last mod was an ECU but like I said I kept my boost at stock levels. See sig

IC.

Even at the same boost levels, an IC can make your turbos more effective at delivering the stock power without working as hard. Then you get do get an ECU, you'll be all set to turn up the boost a little.

I'd go for the IC first.. however make sure you have a boost guage and don't go over 10. If needed look up now to bring your boost down to 7-9psi if you start to spike. The only think keeping your turbos from spiking is the stock cat you have. Freeing up the intake and removing the restrictions caused by the stock IC, I'd be carefull.

However if boost levels remain the same with the new IC, you'll get the most fun out of that since the stock one is a pos.

I agree, an IC before the ECU should be fine for your setup. Just stay away from a midpipe untill you get an ecu/boost controller.

Intercooler. By getting the intercooler first, you will save yourself a tune if you go with a PFC later.

You will need a boost controller, if you don't already have one.

Agree with all of the above, IC then ECU... I ran intake, dp, catback, FMIC, MBC to help limit the boost, and some other little things before I got my ECU and the car was fine...

I say IC and then ECU as long as you maintain the boost down.
I have greddy 3 row smic for sell with piping and duct by the way.

What type of ecu?a m2 stage3 or a pfc? if it was me i would buy a ecu first, because a m2 stage 3 and stock injectors can support up to 14.2 lbs of boost,I read that on this forum and have hit that plenty of times with my last fd with no problems. If you could do both at once ,that would be the ticket.get a hks twinpower after that.

The problem with that is fuel is only one side of being safe. Even with the proper fuel, hot charge temps can still cause pre-detonation. You really need both sides for higher boost levels. Going with an IC will at least allow the turbos to work less to produce the same 10 PSI, this making the turbos feel much more reponsive.

i agree, but what come first the chicken or the egg?i would prefer more fuel(m2 ecu) to prevent fuel cut and prob a little richer than the stock ecu.100%stock fds can run a long time with the stock ic,but god forbid you open up that intake and exhaust w/o getting more fuel in there.

It has already been proven that you can open up the intake and exhaust and be safe on the stock ECU (as long as boost is kept at the stock 10 PSI).

The problem is when increasing boost and that really shouldn't be done on the stock ECU or stock IC.

No, I didn't say get both at the same time. You get a better benefit with a larger IC, without increasing boost, than an ECU. Any benefit of an ECU without boost increase is timing adjustment and that's not always a good thing on it's own.

while i defer to your superior knowledge,i would still go with the ecu, because it is cheaper and a great bang for the buck.i paid 650 for greddy smic as compared to 350 for my m2 ecu.however, i added both of these at the same time (last fd) so i have no real proof of what is actually better for performance and reliabilty.but i am pretty sure once that intake and exhaust is opened that boost will rise. it did on both of my stock fds and i wanted to make sure i had a ecu that would compensate for that.
