ecu or boost controller?

I have a cheapbastard intake w/ k&n drop in, and just got my pettit DP and apex dual n1 catback is in the mail.

After I put these on, will there be more danger of leaning out or of having boost spikes/creep? Should I get an ECU or boost controller?

From what I have read I should be fine with these mods (DP, catback and K&N) and not having either an ecu or boost controller for right now, however before I can do any others they both need to be addressed.

Please correct me if I am wrong, and offer advice from your experience.

Having an electronic or manual boost controller will help keep you at the stock 10 psi limit. Getting an aftermarket ecu is always helpful, especially the power fc and other standalones because they can really help you fine tune the car. They allow you to increases your mods the the limit, and you won't have to stop at downpipe, cat-back and intake. You will be able to add things such as a midpipe, more boost, intercooler and such with some base maps which include all or some of the mods depending on what you want. www.rx7store.net has the apexi power fc for sale and when they ship it they usually can put any base map on that you would like fyi. If rx7store doesn't do it, i know for a fact that www.rx7trix.com does, but rx7store is better

Edit*

But with just a mbc (cheap mod) you will be fine.

You should be fine. Keep an eye on your boost, and if you are seeing much more than 11ish or so, you may want to look into a b/c, either manual or elec (recommend elec). Keep in mind the main cat is your bottleneck for flow, so as long as you keep that sucker on the car you should be ok.

So just to double-check, I have the cheap-bastard intake and racing beat dual, from what I've read I should be fine with stock-ecu and no boost controller. I'll watch the boost carefully but don't anticipate any major changes.

I plan to add a downpipe soon which brings me pretty close to possible problems so I'm planning on adding the cheapo home depot boost controller before installing the downpipe. I don't want to spend money on an electric boost controller because eventually I'd like to buy a power fc so I can safely raise the boost a little. I could wait and get the downpipe and power fc at the same time, but I'd like to do the dp soon for reliability reasons.

Does that seem to follow conventional and current wisdom? I've had remarkable luck with my seven and don't want to screw it up implementing reliability mods...

BTW - Sorry for bringing back a thread to ask a question that has been asked a million times before. But at least I didn't start a new thread!

personally i would go for the ecu vs the controller. from the ecu you will gain mo power from your mods rather than just keeping boost capped at stock.

I plan to go for the ecu eventually, but don't have $900 to spend on a power fc right now. The other ecu options don't seem to be all that much cheaper either, and I'd rather have the expandability of the fc over a re-programmed ecu. Thats why I want to go with the cheap diy controller for now and not blow money on a controller. I don't plan to use a mid-pipe in the near future so I'm not too worried about spiking.
