Ebay warning - dude selling "99 twins"

This auction -

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=290151569541

Dude is selling a pair of stock twins, claims they're both "99 spec twins". The top set in the pics is a set of Cosmo twins, either 20b or 13b, but useless for an FD regardless. The bottom set is a plain set of FD twins.

I messaged the dude on Ebay to let him know the deal, telling him about the serial numbers to positively identify them. Response -

ok then i have both sets of twins then. the one set has on the compressor n3g1 and the other set has n3a1
Yeah, I get a bad feeling here. Avoid this auction, folks - you'll likely end up with some junker parts for a premium price.

I've seen the same guy listing stuff that was questionable - I think he's partially ignorant of what he's got, and partially doesn't care if he can make a buck out of the deal.

Regardless, it's a good idea to make SURE they're real 99 spec twins if you're going to buy a set. I've seen a few posts recently with people having the Cosmo twins thinking they are something special. Real 99 twins look JUST like our stock twins as far as the turbine housing and general shape and design, save for the black plastic abradable seal in the compressor housing and N3G1 serial number on the compressor housing itself.

And, FYI, N3A1 is the stock twins, N3C1 are the minor upgrade/95 stock twins. N3C1's have the restrictor pills built into the nipples on the compressor housing and possibly some minor changes to the turbine housing as far as materials and the like - that's it.

They look to long to be for any 13B. They are probably for a 20b.

Unfortunately, Dale's warning might already be too late:

Nope, I'm currently messaging the seller and so far I suspect he's simply not aware of the problem.

Or he's playing dumb. Now that they have been correctly ID'd we'll see if he updates the listing.

Good job, Dale.
That info also solves a mystery. When I put 'new' (read: low mileage used) turbos on my rebuild, I found that I didn't have restrictor pills in my lines and assumed they were built into the turbos on my old units that got semi-trashed when apex and corner seals went thru the primary.
So I just went and checked those old turbos and they have 'N3C1A' stamped on them. So...I guess these couldn't have been the stock '93 units, huh?

Thanks a lot Dale, I was watching this auction and you might've just saved me! I'm not looking for 99 twins, just a good set of stock twins, but I still won't be buying from this scammer!

Sorry to hear that. Let me find out if a local guy needs my twins first, if not, you can have them, just pay for shipping.

Good looking out Dale.
