Ebay intake pipes vs...

Is there really a difference between these and the one sold at say, Gotham or other places?
Wouldn't the stock rubber pipes conduct less heat?

the main different is fitment and quality of the couplers. i have a couple of threads bitching and moaning about the ebay pipes - feel free to search for them.

the only pipes that work on the stock airbox is the rx7store ones. ask me how i know....

i have the ebay pipes.

the pipes themselves are great.... the shitty couplers they come with SHOULD NOT BE USED (as seen in picture...). they will split after the first day of driving with them. there are several places online where you can buy nice reinforced couplers.

those pictures are from before i put the split rubber hose over those sharp aluminum edges......

I just got a set off ebay for $35 and just threw the hose couplers out. Also shortened the secondary pipe so my frontmount pipe slides by. Just slide the KN filters over the ends. I am satisfied. G

Rubber is better insulator, but stock ones are not good design. They have very small bore in primary, and can collapse. Hard pipes are for show. McMaster Carr wire reinforced hoses are functionally best ... least heat soak, weight, cost, and full bores.

Check intakes in newbie section, ciriani site link. I first disclosed this mod on the old big list. Many track guys have done it.

Are the pipes from RX7Store.net or Gotham Racing any different than the eBay pipes???

A few months back and prior, it seemed there was a difference between the RX7Store.net and eBay pipes. Now, there are new pics which seem identical to the eBay pipes??? The Gotham Racing pipes look the same as the RX7Store.

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

If the RX7Store/GR are selling intake pipes that 100% FIT the stock airbox for $89-99, that's quite a deal. By the time you'd buy the eBay pipes (around $50-shipped) and some good couplers (around $30-shipped) you're at nearly the price of better pipes that will fit better.

Can anyone confirm this?

My comments about fit were about the older RX7store pipes made from stainless. You are right though. The new RX7store pipes look different. The Gotham ones don't fit the stock airbox and looked similar to the ebay ones except with quality couplers and hose clamps. I ordered a set b4 trying the RX7store ones and had to send them back b/c the bottom one doesn't fit.

I got a set of those intake pipes off Huy Tran here and his set looks just like the ones on Ebay except the hose couplers/clamps were good. I've had em for more than a year and they haven't split on me yet.

I have open filters, so fitment was ok. I don't think the fitment would be so good with an intake box of some sort as the primary intake pipe doesn't seem to have the exact curve as the stock pipe. Other than that, it's been good. I got a good deal on RX7fashion pipes, which are stainless steel instead of aluminum, so I went with those.

Im trying to get the old pipes we use to sell, but no ETA right now. They fit well with the stock box like alberto mentioned.

Here's RX7store's pipes bolted temporarily on the stock airbox before I installed theA'pexi filters(I was curious if they would fit as claimed. Ignore the clamp locations). You can't see the bottom elbow pipe but it fits nicely also. Use a pic or two for proof of fit if you want Jason. I'm very happy with them.

And with filters...

I'm using the ebay pipes with the ebay couplers for about a 1/2 year (10k miles).

No problems and I am using the apexi intakes which I got from ebay also.

my car was built off ebay

That was who I got them from too.
The couplers are made of some thick material that takes a set after a few months of heat cycling. Maybe b/c I had to remove my airbox a couple of time to do some maintenance his couplers cracked pretty quickly in my situation. I then had to go and buy new silicon couplers at $6-7 each and the bottom pipe was still rigged onto the stock airbox. I tried cutting to fit. It helped a little bit, but I wasn't comfortable with the angle. It just didn't look right and I was concerned it would pop out of the coupler (it did it once).

For use with an open element filter vs the stock or M2 style airbox the el cheapo ebay stuff is fine. For use with any kind of box, you need something like RX7store's old skool pipe-age.
