I'm looking to upgrade thestock lights on my brothers 93 RX7 and I'm wondering do you have to get some sort of conversion headlight housing or simply add on some HID's to your existing system? Right now as you all are aware of the stock lights suck and the housings are faded looking I'd like to do both and dont want cheap e-bay crap.

 

maybe not that easy of a question? I really dont want to do the flush mount light simpily because having done 5 different sets on my MR2 and all of them basically sucking in one way or the other I'm a big fan on HID's now. I saw that wise sports make a set but are their any places here in the us that carries them? I really dont want to order a set from takakaira or anything like that and have to wait 8-10 weeks

 

IMO, unless you are going to buy a complete light kit, just clean/polish the lenses and use some Sylvania Silverstars (and adjust the beams).

End of story.
There are a VERY limited number of 'successful' HID conversions, and a helluva lot of riced-out crappy jobs out there.
Plus, there is a lot to be said for keeping the integrity of the car as stock as possible.

 

If I were you, try to find some OEM headlight housings that aren't badly faded and swap the stock bulbs for HID's.
The lighting will improve by 200% with HID.

Personally speaking, I can't stand projector housings. I have to jump between my Mazda3 and 7, and whenever I have to get into the 3 and drive at night, I can't see a bloody thing! I'm constantly trying to drive around with my highbeams on.

I dropped HID replacements from Xenondepot.com into the stock FD housing and it made a huge difference!

Of course if you're one of those people who love the "cut-off" projectors give off, you'll have no choice but to retrofit a projector housing into the headlight unit.

that was kind of my original question to begin with. personally hacking out your stock lights and grafting on other projector isnt my thing

 

HID's are not legal without that cutoff. They also look better with a proper cutoff from outside the car IMO.

 

Well, if that was true then the Honda TL and the Lincoln Mark 8 would not be legal, right??
Those are just 2 of the models that use reflector style housings with HID bulbs.
There are a couple of American SUV's that have reflector style housings as well.

It's unfortunate the later Honda TL's turned to projectors. The earlier models gave better lighting than the later models.
