Easier FD coolant refill tip

Tip for easier coolant filling:
When you disconnect the hose at the back of the UIM, put a 2" x 2" elbow of the same size hose aimed up on the metal tube. Then support the hose you disconnected so its end is also raised up. This worked a lot better (less spillage and quicker filling) than disconnecting the hose and leaving the 2 ends at the same level they were initially.

After I refilled the coolant this way and ran the engine once, the coolant buzzer never came on, plus it only took ~ 1 cup of coolant to top it off at the filler cap when it cooled. That's the easiest coolant refill I've ever had.

After I took it for a ~10-mile ride and let it cool overnight, it did take another pint or so to top everything up, but I never did have the low-coolant buzzer go off.

Yeah you're gonna have to take a picture of this, I read your first post 5 times and I'm still not sure

Sounds like a solid idea, though! I like the idea of easy coolant fill up!

The car's back together, the coolant is topped up, and I didn't want to detach that hose again to take a photo on the car, so I attached a photo of a crude sketch I just made. I hope that'll clear up any confusion.
Stick the 2x2" elbow on the tube, aimed up, and support the hose that normally attaches to the tube in a similar height raised position. Doing this raises the vent openings ~2" so air can vent but coolant won't overflow while you're adding coolant at the fill location (non-vented cap).

I usually just rest that rear iron hose on top of the TB with a paper towel underneath it, fill the system with the Lisle funnel and do it slow on the last 1/2 gal to allow air to come up. Once the coolant starting to come out on that hose I connect it back to the TB, fill the rest of the system, run the car up to temp and rev it a few times to push some of the air out, then 1 drive and 1 fill up at the neck and I'm good to go for the year.

If there are easier / quicker way to do it I'm all for it tho!

^^^

This is pretty much how I do mine as well. The only thing I do different is when the thermostat opens ( you’ll know because the amount in the funnel drops) I let it run for a few minutes, then do a couple of revs. I don’t drive it but shut it down and leave it sit overnight with the funnel attached. As it cools down overnight, it will drawl all the remainder of the coolant into the system. The following day I close everything up and make sure the coolant overflow is about halfway full. Doing it this way I’ve never had to top off again. My radiator is in the factory position. You Vmount guys may have to do additional filling.

That's basically what I used to do. The disadvantage was that I always dribbled some coolant out of the UIM hose or tube, and I had to fill slowly to not create a mess back there. With the up-turned vents, I was able to fill much faster and didn't lose any coolant out of the UIM connection while doing it.
