Unhappy Dump Valve/BOV

Hi

New to this forum so hi people. I have just bought a dump valve and I am wondering how hard/easy it is to fit? Any help would be greatly appreciated, including pics or even instructions! would be great!

Thanks is advance

Alex

P.S I am REALLY REALLY new..so any instructions would be best in layman terms.

If your new BOV has a connection for the vaccumline then i guess you can just switch with your stock BOV.
Any other comments about this?

Replacing the BOV isn't a problem, however mounting it could be tricky if you got a universal one.

Which BOV did you purchase?

Blows constantly? Should only blow to relieve the excess from the turbos. Are you having any boost related problems?

My boost gauge show's normal values.

When im on idle the BOV blows alittle and if i accelerate alittle more it blows much more and if i accelerate alittle harder like when i get boost it stops blowing and releases like normal

That's not my interpretation of how the BOV is suppose to work, but I couldn't tell you for sure. I don't hear mine releasing util it's suppose to, but then again I can't hear much over my exhaust.

If you aren't having any boost problems, then I would leave it alone.

I believe they refer to it as the "Air Bypass Valve".

Hi

Thank for the replies. I have bought a Bailey Motorsport Dump Valve. Best to mention I am in the UK so I am not sure if you guys will be familiar with this make.

Another dumb question, I have had a look in the engine and I am hoping! that the dump valves are located on two pipes connected to the Air box. Is that right? If so, does it matter which BOV I replace with the new one?

Thanks

You will be looking in the right place. The valve closest to the air box will be the BOV. The one closest to the turbos will be the CRV.

You want the BOV.

Unless you are at on boost, your BOV will vent. You just won't be able to hear it, because there won't be much air flowing through it.

Now.... what is the advantage of running an aftermarket BOV? Does the stock one not suffice?

thast not our bov that u are hearign when u are on partial throttle, thats the CRV valve that blows the the excess air out when the secodn turbo is prespooling, and it is supposed to stop as soon as u mash teh pedal. that is very normal. if u are hearign hissing sounds on idle u have a vacuum leak

on idle it shoudl be suckign if anything, it only blows out when u let off. is it installed correctly? the air has to point out of the engine on the blow off valve.

If you are using the stock twin turbos, there is no benefit of using an aftermarket BOV performance wise.

The only benefit is a louder/different BOV sound.

Thanks for your help, fitted the BOV with a bit of brute force! pipe wouldn't go on very easily. Now comes the even stupider question.

I have a 93' TT Automatic, now when I go through the gears I don't hear any 'Whoosh' (Sorry for the bad immitation) I only get that whoosh when I let off the accelerator.

I presume this is normal???? Other cars seem to whoosh through all the gears...is that because they are manual?

I know this is probably a stupid to question to ask but learners have to start somewhere

Thanks

alex88,

You need to make boost for it to have something to blow out. If you are just casually shifting, you are probably not making enough boost for it to open and vent.

If you floor it, you will hear it blow off when you release the gas pedal (ie, for shifting). You don't want it to release the pressure any other time or else you'll loose your boost!
