Dumb Question about Keys

Ok so when i bought my Fd my key came bent. So i made a new one and it bent a week later by opening my door. Is there a stronger type of key i should ask for? Or like a good brand of key? Dont want to one day break it in the ignition .

Is it hard to turn your key in your locks? If so spray some WD40 in them.

where do you get your keys at. i had a crappy copy with my car when i bought it. so i just went to the dealer with my registration and bought 2 new keys which they will cut for free. copies are usually a pretty poorly made piece.

If you have the original locks on the car, you can get a new key cut at Mazda using your VIN (i.e. not a copy of an already worn key).

I have the same issue guys, my drivers side door lock cylinder eats keys. So far I have been lucky enough to not have one break off in my ignition or door lock cylinder. My solution was to have a solenoid installed into my drivers side door to allow the aftermarket alarm unlock the doors. When I have my rx7 sitting with no batteries connected I've either left my doors unlocked, or locked and used my key in the trunk to get into the car. And btw, all my keys are Mazda oem keys cut by vin # number by using my title and license as identification, registration and a license should work too. I've tried wd-40 and all that kinda stuff into the lock cylinder with no avail. I haven't had Mazda quote it yet, but one of these days I want a replacement door lock cylinder that matches with my vin.

My door locks were the same way, I bit the bullet and ordered new locks from Malloy. The door cylinders were ~60/ea however I needed a local lock smith to re pin them to a new master key I also ordered. The lock smith charged me $30/cylinder. The hatch lock was a little more at ~80 and also a pain to put in.

Try using some http://www.triflowlubricants.com/Tri...Lubricant.html
As a lubricant works very well. Before I had used this stuff, I had to put some effort in turning the key, how I can almost flick the key and the door unlocks. Also if you lose the straw that comes with it, just spray the key and insert, less of a mess.

I had the same issue and end up breaking the key in the ignition. I did lubricate it but the tumbler started to get stiff again. I cleaned the tumbler with brake cleaner and spray a lubricant we use on aircraft and it hasn't give me any problem since.

I use dry powder graphite lubricant.....it's basically a dust you shoot into the keyhole. IMO, it's much better than any of the wet stuff I've tried in the past. With a few squeezes, it goes from super tight to smooth in no time and it lasts a good while. It doesn't last forever though...probably because my keyhole flap fell off.

I'm pretty sure I bought the dry graphite powder at the auto parts store...Advance Auto should carry it. If not, there's always eBay and/or Amazon.
