Dumb Newbie questions..
I just got my 93 7 bout 10 days ago. I wanna make sure I catch any significant problems before I lose a motor.
1) How much WHITE exhaust (normal as far as I can tell) is normal at idle while warming up? My car certainly has more exhaust than any other car I've seen.
2) At what point does a somwhat choppy idle (that doesn't feel severe, and is not all the time) become something to worry about?
My 7 has about 7k on a $6000 rebuilt engine.
By the way, I was hooked before ever driving this car, and now after driving/owning it, I fear that I can never turn back
Amazing how quickly you put 300miles on a car without having to drive to work or school!
Thanks Guyz

Should be very minimal smoke. Sometimes I get a little but most of the time you can't see any, and thats watching the muffler. Most people do get smoke all the time.
I just switched to all 9's on my plugs and when the motor is cold, idle is choppy. First thing you should do is a full tune up and go from there.

Any idea what too much exhaust might mean? Because minimal certainly does not describe what I'm seeing. I'll be sure to watch my family's other cars to see what the others do since it is a bit cold here. Thanks

It really depends how much condensation got in the exhaust the night before. It may blow out white condensation for a couple of seconds, or it may blow out white condensation for a couple of minutes. It also depends on what the outside temperature it.
It any rate, you really shouldn't have any white smoke after the engine and exhaust are fully warmed up, and if the white smoke smells like antifreeze, then you know you got problems.....

Thanks, I think all is well. It just smells like exhaust and it is pretty cold here. The only thing that confuses me, is that my sister's corolla doesn't put out enough exhaust to really even see it, while my 7 puts out enough that you can't see through it. It does go away after warming up. Thanks again
