Dual Oil Cooler Conversion

Came across some dual oil coolers and was about to pick them up for my Touring,

I was wondering how hard this conversion is though. Do I need to remove the front bumper or can I do it from underneath or in the engine bay?

I searched on this but found no specifics on how easy this swap is.
Just got my car back from paint so I don't feel like pulling off body parts any time soon

yeah, you have to pull the front bumper off and the undertray. also the rad, intake, and intercooler if you are still stock.

Taking off the front bumper is literally a ~10 min job. Putting it back on is just as easy.

I'm well aware how easy taking off the front bumper is

I just got my car back from paint and had my bumper alligned. Not really to kean on taking it back apart again and risking fubaring something.

but I'm still thinking about it............

^^^ Why do you have to pull the bumper?

Can't you reach the coolers fine by taking the plastic screw out of the fender liner and pulling it back a little?

I'm in the process of converting to R1 lines and converting my transmission cooler to an oil cooler.

You do not have to remove the bumper except to install the duct, the only thing you have to remove is (if you are stock or close) SMIC, Intake, Battery/battery tray, Crossover bar, and under tray. These can be installed rather easily in about 1- 1 1/2 hours. You can fish the longer oil cooler lines up from underneath the car on the pass side and back down over by the drivers side. This is really the only tricky part and if you have a friend help you can do it in a matter of minutes.

I say definitely go for it as they are a worthy upgrade.

Yeah, I was going to say... I put in stock dual coolers in mine and never took out the rad or removed the bumper.

It might make it alot easier, though.

Removing the bumper will may it easier to get to the oil cooler mounts on the passenger side of the car. You can probably get away with it by accessing them from the headlight opening and through the bottom of the car but Im not sure how much of a pain it will be.

I removed the front bumper because I had to fab up brackets for the oil cooler since I didnt have any. I also made a duct and used a drivers side oil cooler on the passenger side as a 2nd cooler. Working without the bumper made life much easier in my situation.

Might as well chime in here. . .I just did this recently and took the bumper off. I think it made it much easier. Didn't remove the radiator though. "Fishing" the lines through was a pain, but not insurmountable. I think two people would make it much easier than one. Make sure you have all the clips installed correctly when finished and even consider wrapping with something to ensure you never lose one.

R&R is faster.

Removing the bumper and the belly pan. Those parts are quick and easy.
I went with an aftermarket solution as well, and removed things like the bracket that holds the stock coolers in place. IIRC, that took longer than removing and replacing the bumper.

If you remove the bracket, be sure that you re-connect the ground wire which is on the braket directly to the block - or you will have an unfortunate electrical problem.

Exactly, almost tried this tonight but then realized I had a driver side oil cooler and not the passenger side one. So as soon as I can get the correct one (one I paid for) I will do it, but I have it all removed bumper in place and ready.

found no such ground wire connected to any of the cooler brackets ive removed...
