drop rod broken
drop rod broken
Hi all
I have to ask you again something difficult.
Since im an amateur mechanic ( just hobby ), i broke one of these drop rods on the picture.

Is it possible to put the broken drop rod out and put a new drop rod in? I know if its possible, i have to tap the hole and put a new drop rod in, but im not sure if i have to change the whole part.
Thx a lot
Andi

I believe that is called a stud. No idea what a 'drop rod' is...
I think it is possible to remove it but have no idea how. Google around and I'm sure you'll find a write up somewhere on the net.

There are "stud" removers made for that. Or you can use vise grip pliers and lock the on tight and remove. The catch is that you will have to remove the ACV The part the is being held on by that stud/nut. That will give you the remainder of the stud to grab on to and remove it with.
I am guessing you Ausies call studs, drop rods because that what you do into all your sheila's
..Drop rods..
Sorry someone was going to say it.

and people wonder why Americans are so "uneducated" and obsessed with war. Sorry someone was going to say it.

haha!! NO!! Hooked on Phonics is my friend
I misread the location.
Well that was my attempt at online humor and it failed misrably! Good night and Good luck with the drop rod.Dave
also if the vice grip technique doesnt work (it should) you can weld a nut on the end of the "stud" (makes sure its one size larger than the stud) and try to back it out that way. if none of this works you may be stuck to drilling it but i would defninatly say use drilling as a last resort

I took an german/english translator and it said "drop rod" for "Gewindestange" -->
Ok, i will try a few things to get that stud out.

Andi
PS: And yes, austria is in europe, not in the asian area ^^

Andi,
Before you clamp on to it with locking pliers (visegrips), go to your local parts store and look for penetrating oil. Here in the States we have some stuff called "PB Blaster" that I've had good luck with. Spray on and let it sit overnight. It might help.

After i read it again, i think you all mean that my problem is the m8 ( or m10 ) screwnut, but its the stud/droprod from the picture of my last reply, that part is broken.
I hope i can put that thing out and replace it with a new one, dont want to buy the hole lower intake manifold.
thx

Remove the air control valve and maybe even the solenoid rack to get enough room. I would heat the stud with a torch first. Be careful, there are fuel lines near by. A vice grip should work. Those studs usually come out pretty easily. The stud is an m6x1.0.
Is it broken off flush with the ACV? As long as you have maybe half an inch of the stud sticking out, it should come out with the vice grips once you take off the ACV. +1 to soaking it with penetrating oil.
