OH Hood won't open????

I know, it sounds weird. I closed the hood with no issue. Now it won't open. The handle doesn't even move. The hood is flush with the body as always. It's a stock hood.

Any idea's guys? I feel like I'd have to pry on it, and I don't want to do that.

Sounds like the hood latch is jammed or your cable is shot. If you look where the cable attaches to the pull handle in the car you can free it from the handle. Take a pair of pliers and pull hard on the cable itself and it should pop the hood.

There are plenty of threads available to step you thru the process of opening it. Take a deep breath and don't rush into it and screw something up. Search and you'll find the procedure. Basically you work with a stiff piece of wire to hook and unlatch the hood from underneath.

I had the same problem last month(cable snapped). I used a hanger to gently reach into the hood latch where the cable is at and hooking the lever. new cable cost around 24 bucks from Rays.

Seach -> Advanced Search -> Enter keyword(s) -> "Show Titles Only" -> Select Forum -> Click Search

you might just want to open the hood by turning on your light and you will be able to pull up on the hood from the opening of the headlights. then just try to close the hood and try the pull tab this should free up any kinks. If this doesn't resolve it you will need to refer to the Mazda FSM to make adjustments on th cabel. I hope this helps

Moejoe - You need to learn how to search for information before you attempt that hood repair. If your repair skills are anything like your Search....well you get the picture.

Thanks grimple1. Haven't messed with the search feature how you posted it. I will in the future.

Badddrx7, next time you think you are helping a thread, read one of grimple1 posts and let him be an example for you. My apologies for not being at YOUR knowledge level on this web site.

damn Joe, sometimes it seems if you didn't have bad luck with that car you'd have no luck at all.

Were you ever able to get your ignition breakup problem solved or did you just put the car away for a while and are now just getting back to it?

The car is not that bad. I'm just particular about how things are on it. I have had my share of challenges with the car though. I have taken some time away from the car because of traveling so much this year. Being gone 2 weeks a month, moving, and military obligations make it hard to get car time. So I kind of am starting to work on it again.

As for the ignition break up; I have everything in place for that to be fixed. I have decided to pull the motor and clean it(powder coat and polish). Since the build, I have been trouble shooting electronic issues. It's close , but not the way I want. So I will take my time and have things as clean and functioning as I want. Fortunately, I'm done traveling for a couple month's. How's your car doing? Shoot me a PM.

Thanks for being an asswipe. Joe is very meticulous about gathering information before jumping into a repair. Pardon him for asking for any help.

Joe, I think I may know what you did. I'll call you and come over this weekend. Do you have a 5# sledgehammer?

Mike

You mean to have someone else do it for you !! No thanks MoJoe. That's what this forum is turning into, "somebody show me how to do it" all the time.

That's about all the help I'll offer you, so search.

This should end thid thread......
you have to reach under where the cable is going, with a hooked hanger till you snag the lever under there.

T2 Tsunami, great pics. Thanks for taking the time to post.

Thanks for all the input from everyone.

badddrx7, you pretty much just said most the people on this site are idiots. Fact is, most people are shown things to learn them. So yeah, I was just shown in the pictures from T2 Tsunami. And now I understand how it's done. Doesn't mean he did it for me. And you can jump to all the conclusions you want about me. No where did anyone say they were doing it for me.
Sounds like you have been around this scene for quite awhile. If I'm not old school enough for you, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. I'd rather learn how to take out a tranny and then be able to help someone with theirs when they don't know how. It's just passing on info. Basically, I didn't utilize the search function to its fullest. Fine. Now I know.

If you have anything else to say to me please PM me.

Actually Grimple1 showed you MoJoe. No I am saying YOU have not utilized the search function fully MoJoe. Lately, another guy is asking how to hook up a set of Msd 6a amps, check out what a frustrated gentleman's reponse to that was. The story is that this stuff has been beat over and beat over and it's extrememly frustrating to see the same ole threads started without a proper search.

Now that you have been shown how to open your hood, figure out how to replace the latch cable yourself by using the search function and impress the hell out of us old hands.

I'll be watching for your progress !
