The drive belt belt doesn't fit
This is strange but both gates k050532 and k050516 don't fit on my '93 r1 with 5 speed. Even the old belt that was on there barely goes back on.
I've looked over the service manual and don't really see anything that i'm not doing right. This is a pretty straight forward procedure.
I'm probably just going to get whatever belt that fits to size. But was wondering if anyone else ran into this issue?
Both of those gates belts mentioned earlier reference the FD.

As far as, I can tell they are all stock. No shiny aluminum or anything, plus the car was all stock when I purchased it. Just think it's strange that a specified belt for this car doesn't work
That does sound a bit...odd. When you took the old belt off (you say it "barely went back on") was it a challenge? Sounds almost like something isn't backed off all the way?
How do the new belts measure up to the old, when stretched out together?

I've never had good luck with the belt size recommendation from the parts store. There are some variations - automatic cars I think have a different airpump size, for example.
Is this the alternator/water pump/air pump belt?
If it's just a little too short, just take it back to the parts store and get the next size up. These belts are commonly available. I try to get a good name brand belt - Dayco, Gates, or Bando, for example.
On an FD with a Pineapple pulley and aftermarket pullies I think I once made like 5 trips to the parts store to get the right size

If the "gross adjustment under the airbox" is the air pump adjustment than yes I had it maxed out all the way down. Unfortunately, not able to post pics of the pulleys at the moment.
I ended up going with a size up on belt from Master Pro part # k050538. It went on just fine with plenty of adjustment room to spare. The guy at the store said that gates makes Master Pro.
Got the car up and running, hoping to pass emissions for the last time tomorrow. That's what started this all in the first place, had to remove my home made 3" exhaust to install the stock one back on.
