New 88 TII, doesn't run and doesn't shift into 1st or 2nd
Ok so I got an 88 TII for free yesterday. We worked on it today and I have a couple questions that haven't been fully answered by searching yet. Remember the car DOES NOT RUN right now.
1. The tranny will not shift into 1st or 2nd gear AT ALL. Its kinda hard to shift into 3rd and it shifts alright into 4th 5th and reverse. So when I try to push it over into 1st and 2nd it will not budge. It feels like it "hits" something and will not move into that gate. I know that the clutch disengages because the engine turns in neutral and also my friend left it in 4th accidently and I was trying to turn the engine again and it was hard to turn and made a clunking sound when turning so the clutch does engage.
2. When I first tried to turn the engine manually by the e-shaft pulley, it was stuck. I was turning it clockwise and I kept pushing and it finally made a "metal clunk noise" and broke loose and allowed me to turn it. Then I could only turn it one full revolution back to the spot where it broke loose and it would stop again and get stuck, then I would try to turn it back counterclockwise and it would be kinda stuck on that spot then loosen up and turn ok.
Alright so thanks in advance for any input you have.

Your engine is carbon locked.Try mixing mmo and transmission fluid together squirt into your lower sparkplug holes and turn the engine until all three apexes contact the oil.Let sit overnight. That should free it up.As for the tranny did you try moving the car back and forth to see if it is stuck in between gears. And check the oil level in the transmission.

And as for the tranny, we towed the car a few blocks on all 4 wheels to get it to my house and i think when i was in it before that i tried to shift into 1st/2nd just messin around and it wouldnt go, but I didn't really think about it at all. Then we towed it to my house in neutral of course and parked it. Then today when i tried to move it into 1st/2nd I really noticed it not goin at all. But ill try movin the car a little tomorrow and see what happens.
Wait 'til the engine is running to try the trans. You've got to have the main shaft spinning, and even then, at times, you'll find it difficult to get into first at start up.

Ok, well turns out I was just a dumbass/tired and it actually does shift into 1st and 2nd just fine. I was just used to the 87 NA we have at autotech where 1st/2nd is way over to the left, the TII's is much shorter and I didn't even realize it. Well thats one less problem... now its time rip out the moldy interior and let the ATF do its work.
