Drag racing... the return road...?
Hey Guys,
When you guys are on the return road after the WOT
run.
Is it a good Idea to run the heater on full blast to get the coolant flowing and also turning on the light switch one notch to get the fans going?
Any suggestions on how to cool the car down?
thanks
jc.

a few WOT runs aren't too much to worry about, especially up in Canada
are you worried about overheating or heat soak?
there's nothing you can really do about heat soak other than opening the hood, you can turn the A/C on 3 to turn the fans on high to move more air through the engine bay
overheating, just turn your parking lights on, the fans will kick on sooner

When I am at the dragstrip I always make sure to go all the way down to the last turnoff. It is easy to make the first one but it just gives the car more time to cool down if you drive all the way down and back.

that's what I do, just go the posted return speed limit (usually 15 or 20 MPH) and pop the hood. I have a water temp gauge installed, and the temp honestly doesn't go up too much on the run. You are only running WOT for maybe 13-14 seconds?

But I know it's actually about 12 - 13 secs. down the track...remember though about 4-7 secs in the burnout box.
this adds to the underhood engine temps...

Yeah popping the hood usually the best method as long as you have a decent safety catch.
I"m always more concerned with heat soak while sitting in the staging lanes.
Still looking for the best fan to install on back of the SMIC

I'm not sure if you can just disconnect the connector going the ac compressor easily, if you disconnect it and turn on the ac, the fans will come on but the ac compressor wont engage. I'm not running the belt for my ac and ps right now so i just turn on the fans right after the run. I like to go wot all the way to the end of the track and take the last exit.

ok, i'm kind of an idiot.. I just turn on my a/c without disconnecting the compressor. My theory was that if you turn the a/c on low, the additional cooling from the fans running would out weigh the heat produced by the condensor. that is not necessarily the case.

no, they mean a/c because the fans turn on one step higher than they would otherwise be operating at, therefore additional cooling is provided. i suppose turning on the heater with a/c wouldn't hurt, but i don't know how much heat the heater core could actually dissapate in the grand scheme of things.

My freon is too low to run the compressor right now, but even when it worked I noticed cooler temps with the A/C on while idling due to the fans. The cooling effect of the fans overcomes the heat given off by the condensor and then some. Otherwise temps would just rise until the fans turn on anyway (while stationary
