Downpipe fitment
I'm looking to get a new downpipe and was wondering about fitment issues? What would anybody suggest for brands names or differences between companies? Has there been any changes over the years in terms of improvements of designs? Anyone who is happy or dissappointed with there downpipes? I think that just about covers my questions.
Thanks for the help

Search can help alot!! (I only say that cuz i asked the same question)
But go with an Ebay one. You may have to modify a little if at all but there's no difference really between which one you should use. They all do the same thing.

If you want to be assured of a good quality pipe with good fitment, stick with the pipes from rx7.com, Pettit Racing, or Gotham Racing. Many people have tried the cheaper pipes out there, some with success, others without. Do a search for more info.

When I was looking, many people told me to beware of downpipe's that are inexpensive and have a thin flange on the engine side that make's fitment a real problem.
I am going with a Pettit Racing dp that I have hear is made well, and fits well.
turbodrx7 has one for half the cost of a new one-I was going to buy it, but he couldn't get it to me in time. you might want to contact him if you end up wanting one of those.

i have an ebay dp on my car and the fitment wasn't very good. the holes did not line up with the cat so i couldn't install it myself. i had to take it to my mechanic who had to drill out the holes. add the labor cost to the cost of the dp
you can find some name brand ones used if you like or buy one that you know will fit.

I installed 'Tsudo' stainless downpipe from ebay recently and the fitment was horrible. midpipe came with the dp. even dp+midpipe combo fitment was horrible. I had to pull the stock exhaust forward to bolt it up.
I'll sell you the dp+mp combo for $50 if you want. it's almost like brand new.

HKS fits perfectly. It also does not require you to remove the stock studs, which tend to be locked in place (as mine were). The only problem is there might be flow problems associated with the curvature of the pipe. IMO though HP losses would be minimal from the "squashed" pipe

It also has a crimp in the piping because it is meant for a japanese FD. I recommend going with a d/p that doesnt have that restriction.
I happen to have a Petit and a HKS. I'm using the HKS because I couldn't get the studs off without breaking them.

I used a Pettit on mine. The studs on mine came off easily. Hardest part was getting the precat out then lining the new one up w/ that gasket. But the Pettit fits perfectly.

I have a Gotham Racing downpipe. Fitment was very good. I had to dremel one of the welds to make the bolt head fit flush. For some reason, the bolts they sent me were the wrong pitch, so I had to get some grade 10.9 metric bolts from the auto parts store. Not really a big deal, but a minor inconvenience having to go get parts when I thought all of the stuff I needed for the install was there.
