down pipe,,,right hand drive FD

just a quick question,,,one of you clever guys must know this,,,,was looking at the down pipe mide pipe combo on the RX7STORE.. now is there enough space for the downpipe as the steering column shaft seems to be very tight down that side ((right hand drive car)) if this downpipe doesnt fit,,,which one does,,,,i got a strange feeling its gonna have to be an expensive HKS one or something,,,,but they not stainless steel and the pipe curves look no where near as sexy as the rx7store versions
any info guys?

Actually, I don't think it will. The only downpipe I've heard of that fits right hand drive cars is the HKS.

You can find the HKS downpipes used on the forum pretty cheap. Us US peeps tend to prefer the other downpipes w/o the kink for the steering rack.

If you don't have a clue, why post and **** someone else up? No LHD downpipe will fit. You need a specially curved on that accounts for the collar on the steering column.

Go with any of the jap 2-piece cast ones. They're simply unbeatable for flow rate over anything else available.

tiger18----There are a 100 companies here in Japan with downpipe that will fit, stay away from the US one since no dent for the steering shaft.

rpm_pwr---2 piece cast ones? I must have missed that. Why cast if I may ask?

I thought all RHD cars came with a factory DP. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

my bad if LHD downpipe wont fit RHD FD... my clue was both are design the same with same engine and etc.. so why wouldn't any downpipe fit...?? But makes sense, it is after all a RHD on the "right" side...

becuase they're the only ones I've seen flow tested. All the good ones I've seen ( HKS and knight sports) are a two piece job where both halves have been seperately made and TIG welded together. I figured it's because they just can't bash the steering column bend into a 3'' bit of pipe (which I have seen too)

JONSKI,
the Australian and European MAZDA delivered cars have a US-style pre-cat. You couldn't imagine how hideously restrictive a cat with a steering column bend built into it would look like.

are the import JDM Fd's equiped with 3" DP's or just a standard pipe with no cat??

Hey pete, what DP you running? Any reason a local exhaust shop couldn't fabricate a dp and mp?

I just looked at mine. They seem to be normal size with no cat. Definately not 3"

HKS may not be BLING stainless or have sexy curves or whatever, but the **** works. Fitment is perfect, finish is durable. HKS for life!!!

The JDM cars have a standard cast iron pipe with the kink, though I don't reckon you could call this a "downpipe." And YES there is NO PRECAT.

I have recently installed the cast iron HKS unit and it has made a massive improvement in power and response!

My MP is custom, but I took an HKS dump to the best exhaust guys in town (CES) and even they said that they don't have the equipment to make something as good as that. I had a custom one made on my last FD and it was seriously the stupidist thing I ever did. Took about 3 months to get it so it didn't rub and even then the flow was terrible.

It's not iron! The JDM downpipe is 2.25" insulated mild steel.

Saburo: The HKS RHD one(s) ARE stainless steel. Why do so many people think that the USA is the only country on earth?
