Double Throtle Question.

I took my manifold off to do a hose job, and I was wondering about those butterflies doors or throttle doors or whatever it's called. Are the sopose to be closed all the way, all 3 of them or are they sopose to be open?

When i took that plastic pipe that was connected to the manifold coming from intercooler, you can see the butterflies and they were closed. I did this in the morning and the car has been cooled off over night.

so i just want to know, are they staying closed all the time and then open on specific time or what?

Thanks

Thumbs up

you are looking at your throttle body not your manidfold. when you step on the gas they open up just like a carburator. the double throtle control is behind them wich you can get to if you un bolt the throttle body.

I was advised to leave the double throttle alone unless you have an aftermarket ecu...reason is i've been told you can lean out

it is used while the car is cold. (helps you not overboost while cold) once warmed up, they will open. you can do away with them and the acatuator. it is not needed. it can actuly cause you a problem wih boost down the line if the solinod fails. in older cars (TII) these were driven my a coolant line and would clog. not allowing it to read that is up to temp and stay shut.
but the one you are describing are from the TB. usethe trotle to open these and look in. you will see the double TB plates.
just dont go nuts until car is up to temp.

Can someone please tell me if there is any ill effects by doing this? I never drive my car hard when the engine is cold, i always wait till it warms up.
I also have PFS, so i don't think i'll get lean.

Is there any problems at all by doing this?

Please reply.

Thanks

no. no problems. just take it easy while cold.
i said this already

also, you can use some of "the right stuff" (it is a band name) gasket maker to fix your stock paper one if that is still in there.

The DTC also prevents the engine from possibly running lean during boost.

As per the Service Highlights Manual - "The response delay of the pressure sensor to follow rapid acceleration temporarily causes a lean fuel mixture. The double throttle control system prevents hesitation caused by this lean fuel mixture by slightly delaying the opening of the double throttle valve plate mounted downstream of the secondary throttle valve."

I've never heard of anyone blowing their engine because of removing them, and I have had mine out for over 3 years and 40k miles later. If you remove them, you WILL have a hole you need to patch up where the rod was located. I simply stuffed a little JB Weld in there. It's not the prettiest thing, but once you reinstall the UIM, you will NEVER see that part of the manifold ever again.

Oh, and I would never repair a gasket, either. Unless I am stuck in the middle of no where and have no other choice. Even if the gasket looks good, I'd get a new one anyways. It's old, and probably has some miles on it. The new one is cheap, and you allready have the TB off.

Ok i removed double throtle and i pluged that hole on the side.

Now i need to know what to do about that solenoid. I noticed that there is somekind of small connector on the solenoid.

What should i do about it. If i unplug it and remove the solenoid is there gonna be check engine light or something?

Any comments?

where is that connector coming from and what kind of function does it do?

It's not gonna cause any problems just staying there unconnected?
