Door dings

I've had my FD since Oct 1998, in that time it has never gotten a door ding in that time. I'm pretty careful with where I park but I'm not completely ****.

Well it happened, I got a ding right smack in the middle of the driver's door. The bummer part about it really is that it happened in my OWN DRIVEWAY. The kicker was a fellow FD owner dinged my car with his FD.

I wasn't gonna post this but I've been lookin' at the ding everytime I go in the garage.

No hard feelings to the fellow FD owner and forum member (you know who you are) but I'm just a little sad...

Time to get the ding king! Or a Saturn. Sorry to hear, maybe you can get some carbon fiber/fiberglass doors we are trying to get a group buy on.

Does that ding king thing actually work? I saw it today on sale and thought it looked interesting for $20.

I doubt it, it may work for a few, but I would think it would be a waste of money. However, I hear the paintless dent removal places do pretty good work.

My car had 3 tiny dings when I bought it. I phoned a local place called "Dent Pro". The guy came out and fixed my dings for $75 (total). He inserted a metal rod under the ding, and slowly worked it out until it was gone. I am pretty damn picky with this car, and I could not find the dings when he was done. Believe me, I looked for a long time. Not a trace. Best $75 I ever spent.

Hey Jeff,

That's a bummer! I used a local guy to remove the ding I received from a co-worker (she thought it was no big deal... I mean it's only (and I quote) "a little dent". Anyway PM me and I'll give you his phone number.

Thanks, but the problem with this ding is it's location. It is right behind the crash bar on the inside of the door. It might be pretty hard to get to.

Is your guy's name Joe? I've heard of him before.

Jeff

Yeah that's his name (can't remember his last name), he does all the door dings for the local new and used car lots. He really good and if he can't figure a way to do it "the right way" he won't charge you for his time. As I recall his pricing is reasonable.

Let me know if you want it.

they might be ale to get to it. if there is a sealnt holding the bar to the skin it can be cut and redone. There are some better than others. We traded some shop space to a guy restoring a fastback and he took out 3-4 dents a night in cars that we were about to paint. It was a great deal for all of us.

Hey Jeff,
Im **** about where I park and door dings are something I might just hunt someone down if I could get a hunting permit. Well almost!

I had a guy do a paintless dent repair on mine. He came out to my house and took care of all my dings for about $40 apiece - satisfaction guaranteed but with a reasonalbe disclaimer. The hood was the hardest for him to fix because its aluminum. I had a ding that was behind one of the supports in the door and after i pulled the door panel (easy 5 minutes) he was able to fix that one also. Its not absolutely perfect but you really have to know where all the dings were and search carefully to find the spots. Bottom line it looks so much better and until I paint the car they are better than looking at bumps on an otherwise almost perfect body. It would have cost 3 - 4 times as much to have it painted.

Go paintless repair then "Finesse it" your car and the mirrorlike shine will dazzle all onlookers.

CHUCK

I had www.justdings.com remove my dent and I can't even see it anymore. They are a paintless dent removal as well.

My 7 is thankfully without any dings, but my VR4 had a few when I got it and I took it to paintless dent place and they did amazing work. I couldn't see the dings anymore at all. I think they charged about $20 a dent.

I recommend atleast checking into it.

Jeff, I'm really sorry to hear about your ding. The good part is, according to insurance regulations, they are obliged to repair it, and CANNOT raise your rates based on it, since it wasn't your fault. That's the worst case scenario. Hopefully a ding removal guy will be able to do it for $20 or so for ya.

That means you haven't parked far enough When I park, I park so far away (yet in a highly visible area) so that it takes me a good 2 - 3 min to get to the store. Very rarely does some idiot come out and park so far out next to me

My freind had his car parked in the corner of the parking lot (Longs Drugs) and some old lady managed to run the shipping cart by it self across the parking lot and hit my freinds door. my, that door ding was huge...
