Maybe you should change your name to "Insurance newbie" Ever hear of something called a deductible?? Most of us carry deductibles of at least $250 to $500 for comprehensive damage. Thats money out of your pocket before the Ins Co. will do anything. This ding can obviously be repaired for far less.

In addition, many Ins. Co's. offer a "claim free" discount. This discount would be lost by putting in ANY claim.

Haha. Yea I know all about deductibles...but there are other factors that come into play (for the total cost) such as the size/depth of the ding, whether the paint was damaged, if you can paintmatch (some people have special paint jobs), etc. As for "claim free" discount, pshh...I won't qualify for that for YEARS lol. How do you think I financed my body work? Def. worth every penny of the deductible! But like you said, I'm sure the ding can be repaired for less. I was throwing out the idea anyways...for this and/or other damage.

An old gf's MX-3 had a big, shallow dent in a fender where it looked like someone hip checked it. No creases, just a basketball sized depression. A toilet plunger with some vaseline on the edges popped it right out

Ding King. You will not be disappointed...

Thought I would post a couple before and after photos of a frineds car we worked on....94touring did the job and we basically quit because it was getting late...This kit was made to pull small dings and not something of this size...But it did an amazing job...Needs a couple more small pulls here and there but nothing another 20-30 minutes wont fix...I figure a body shop would have charged him a good 600 to fix where we did it in an hour and had a buncha laughs 94touring is now known as The Ding King...He was the one who introduced up to the kit.

I had quite a few door dings on my R2. Finally got them fixed a while back. It seems that no matter where I park the damn car, someone will hit it.

With camera phones all over the place nowadays, you guys should start taking a quick pic of the car(s) on either side of your FD before you leave. If the car is gone, and you have a ding, you can just pull up the pic showing the car + license plate, trackin him down by finding out where he guy lives from the DMV, and have 'em pay for it...or else hehe

Will the DMV give out personal information like that?

IIRC, yes, it's public information. If that surprises you, check this out for a REAL shocker: http://www.abika.com/Reports/VehicleDrivingRecords.htm

Honestly, I don't know. A couple of reasons I guess:
1) You can't do anything about the people you see on the road...you kinda legally HAVE to have your plates exposed
2) You assume the normal people where you live are just that: normal. No psycho stalkers, etc
3) On that note, I DO get paranoid when I cut ppl off LOL cuz they can see my tags. That's always been on my mind. Good thing my plates aren't tagged & titled to my home address
4) There's something uncomfortable about purposefully posting your info on the net where millions, if not billions of people can see and access it - esp. when you don't know WHO is accessing it. Anyone who spent some time on IM and in chat rooms a few years back when the internet was pretty new knows just how many crazy pyscho weirdos we have online...

I hope you don't take this as a flame but that is the most horrible job of paintless dent removal I've seen.

I've used the paintless dent removal on many FDs I've had. The results are usually fantastic. You can't see the ding/dent unless you know where it was, even then it is really tough to see.

Can see it happening? It happens like ALL THE TIME man. Freakin retards. I park in the FARTHEST area of the parking lot, and some retard comes and parks next to my car. Or take the other day, I parked in the huge oversized corner spot @ Boston Chicken (you know how sometimes the last spot is oversized cuz it's not big enough for 2 spots...). So I park practically on the curb. I mean like 2 inches away from it. And some dumbass in a Xterra parks like a few inches away from me, practically straddling the parking line w/ his SUV Pissed me off sooo much... You'd think they'd take the hint...

In fact, around here the BellSouth service trucks always have 2 road cones on a road-cone-holder on the front - they're required to put them in front of and behind the truck any time they stop (for liability reasons). I think I'll grab one next time I see one.

I do have a box of collapsible road cones that I bought at a sporting goods store for impromptu late-night slaloms in abandoned parking lots - they don't look authoritative enough to stop traffic, though... I don't know... good psych experiment.

All this reminds me of a friend who bought a brand new Calloway carbon fiber driver. He thought it was sooo beautiful, but he just couldn't hit it. One day I asked him if I could take a look at it. I then wood chopped it into the ground; took a divot you could carpet your hallway with. He hit it fine after that.

LOL that construction cone idea is awesome! I would LOVE to try that haha. Pull up to the everyday supermarket, bust out w/ a couple cones around the car, and leave w/ peace of mind haha. I'm actually very curious how effective they'd be, cuz I'm sure some retard might be driving too fast to notice them in time and just run 'em to the ground, or others might just move 'em. Looks like I'm gonna have to try to find out hehe
