Dont Go To Pfs!!!!!

Ok, I realize Im bein a bit stupid here but listen to this.....I took my car to PFS to get my secondary turbo boost problem fixed. BIG mistake. I dropped it off with Jeff who is a reasonably cool guy and knows his stuff. He told me that he would look at my car and figure out and FIX it in a reasonable amount of time......I, of course said "Hey Im in no rush, just make sure its fixed when I get it back". So a week went by and I decided to check in to see how it was goin just today and as luck would have it, Mr Ferrell himself answered the phone instead. So I explained my issue to him and he seemed to care a little. Well, after a few seconds of trying to explain my issue he cut me off and said to me, "Well, this is my problem here.....I only have a handfull of technicians on staff here and they are very busy with BIGGER jobs. I cant take a top Tech off of a big job to deal with some pain in the *** boost problem. To be very honest we dont deal with diagnostic stuff, they are a pain and we dont make any money off it. But I will TRY and get one of my guys on it the first of next week." Which happens to be 2 weeks after I dropped it off there. So all of you who live near PFS and want diagnostics.......DONT BOTHER, he doesnt want to help if you aint got the$$$$ to spend on some 3rotor Monster turbo 700 horsepower giant. Shouldnt have waisted my time.

What it comes down to is that Peter is a MAJOR jerk. He doesn't care about anybody and thinks he's hot s*$t. Go and spit on the outside of his building when you get the chance.

I don't want to say much because of the slander issues but Peter should realize that helping people with small problems and doing a good job builds trust. Later that customer might be one of those people looking for a single turbo or 3 rotor or at the very least tell his friends about how his problem was fixed.

I'm about to try and have a word with PF myself. They R+R'd the engine in my car and did a shitty job of putting the wiring back. Some of the wiring on the front side got caught in the belts and ripped a bunch of wiring out. I'm a few hours into it now, and it looks like I have about 8 more hours of work or more to get everything fixed and back together. I'm really becoming a believer in the saying...if you want it done right, do it yourself.

It seems like those TOP ROTARY SHOPS all have the same attitude. I hate to bring this out but it goes the same with Mazdatrix and Tri-Point Engineering. Being in between both shops i usually go there and ask around and they dont seem to care about you unless you are buying something BIG. Seems to me that the only place that really helped me with questions over the phone was MARIAH MOTORSPORTS!..They are GREAT people especially Jim the owner of the shop. He spoke to me for almost 15 minutes and answered most of my questions!.

I'll have to agree with you about Peter. He had my car for 3 weeks for an emissions, trans and some other stuff. He treats you like an idiot, like you have no money to spend, and basically lied to my face. I told him it had a trans problem and he told me it was ok. I insisted he drive the car and then he came back and said it had a problem with 2nd syncro - no **** Peter. He would have known this if he would have driven it like he said he did. After 3 weeks, all I got was new plugs (the old ones were only a few weeks old) and a new temp sensor. At least the sensor fixed my Check Engine light. I was willing to spend money on a tie job and other stuff, but he blew me off and told me to come back later in the year. On the vacuum hoses, he told me they were ok and did not need a wrap job. When I picked up the car, it still smoked black for 10 minutes when cold. Peter told me that this was normal. I told him I've put over 100k mi on both a 1G and 2G RX7 and I've never seen this (just the usual blue smoke for a few sec). He proceded to give me all this BS about how different the 3G is from the older RX's. Don't they all use a rotary? Well, my car still failed emissions and eventually Precision Tune (a last resort) found 2 vacuum hoses off. Plugged these in and the smoking stopped and the car passed emissions. I don't think Peter ever checked my vacuum hoses like he aledged.

I put all this in a letter to Peter. He never responded. Needless to say, I've never been back.

About all he was interested in was in selling one of his many RX7's he buys and sells to my dad (or selling me an exhaust system). I guess he did not approve of my RB exhaust(too quiet for him). The truth is that he thought it was stock since he does not take the time to check anything.

He is such an idiot, I decided it was better to take my car back to the dealer. They were always good with my 1st and 2nd Gen. For the most part, they are pretty good...

For my trans, I decided it was better to UPS it to Pettit in FL for a rebuild than deal with Peter again...

Taking your car to PFS is like throwing money away. My dealer is much better and at least I have 12months or 12k miles warrenty from them. Peter will just tell you to FO...

I would check around with some other 3Gen people in the DC (try the Mazda Sports club of DC http://www.mscw.com) area and see if there is a good Mazda Dealer around (Malloy?) Despite all the bad press about Mazda dealers, there are some who are competent.

Sounds like PFS is loosing a ton of business and thats not good when you have such a small customer base. I guess I'm fortunate to have never talked to him. I've only dealt with Pettit and Jason at the RX7 Store.

I must say that I've been to Pettits shop and Cam spend alot of time with me walking me around showing me his place and talking about all the projects they were working on. They will do anything for thier customers including changing the oil if you want. They seem much more in touch with meeting the needs of thier customers instead of just picking and choosing what they feel like doing.

I highly recommend Cam at Pettit to anyone that has the ability to use them.

Later,

Absolutely. I've heard nothing but good things about Cam and Pettit. Cam ACTUALLY CARES about you as a person and the car you're trying to modify. There's nothing better than feeling comfortable around the people with whom you're doing business.

I like Pettit also but the problem for us in the Northeast is that they are not within driving distance. I've heard nothing but good things about KD Rotary in Allentown, PA which is also close to me.

Just Avoid PFS in the DC area...

I went to PFS about 2 days ago and i went in my cousins honda civic. He wanted to see the rx7s there so i showed it to him, and Peter Farrel seemed pretty nice. He had four cars parked out.. A rx7 that was blue, one that was black, and one that was red with 17k original miles and the Black PFS RX7 500HP that was in Car and Driver. He acted pretty nice, showed the cars, opened the hood and let my cousin look at them. Peter Farrel said he wanted his 2000 honda civic for an RX-7 trade because he needed a civic or camry for his cousin. My cousin said he would think about it, but i dought he will do it.

anyhow, he seemed pretty nice.

P.S but his prices on RX-7s for sale is a little to high...

Hmmmmmmmmmmm ... sounds like I may have to take a trip up to PFS just so I can **** him off. He can't handle it. Road trip, Jason?

And not making any money off diagnostics? What is he talking about? They look at your car for 10 minutes if they know what they're doing and bill you for 3 hours labor. That's a lot more efficient than big installs.

Pettit = Pettit Racing, PFS = Peter Farrell Supercars

fcturbo2,

That is why I am soooooo glad I live near Mariah Motorsports, they are incredible! When you get anything done, they make an appointment with you and show you all the parts, show you any damage the part may have, talk about the pros and cons of different options, don't try and sell you stuff/parts/junk you don't need, and really love the cars. Their big thing is making the customer happy. I love it. It is really rare.

PFS is one of those shops that if you have the bucks to spend you'll end up with a good job done, but you gotta cough up big bucks for it. I will give them credit that when he wants to do a good job he's definately capable of doing some super work, but his customer service skills are the pits. The few times I've visited the shop his techs were more than nice, but I can't say the same for him. I got a chance to talk to some of his guys at last year's MADS and they were way cool, but I've heard far far too many horror stories to bother with the place.

HOLY ****!!! Didnt expect the response I got. Well it sounds like all of you out there share the same feeling about PFS as I do. I think he just needs to take some time and get to know some of his smaller customers. Granted, BIG jobs can bring in money, but how important that company makes you feel is what keeps that BIG customer coming back. Not to mention the BS oil changes that, and lets face it, some of us dont know how to do. No offense to anyone out there. Believe me, when I bought my 93, I had serious doubts at first because of the simple fact that the only place around was PFS. Fortunately I am a tech myself so I am able to do most of the BS stuff myself. But as for the troubleshooting........Hey man I got a busy life and dont always have as much time to spend on my 7 as I would like. So for the tough issues I would LOVE to be able to take it somewhere I can have confidence in. Thanx for the overwhelming responses. And by the way........KDRotay is the **** fellas. Caring about there customers is there number 1 priority. And to me, that means EVERYTHING.

I called them a year ago since I was interested in buying the intercooler setup. The guy who answered the phone acted like I was wasting his time and doing me a big favor by even talking to me. His name? Peter. Needs to read "How to win friends and influence people" by Carnegie. ****, guess I'll need to take my American Express card somewhere else. How NOT to run a business. He lost $5K in freakin' MAIL ORDER business that day just because he has a 'tude!
I'm not sure where this guy is coming from but I consider EVERY customer who calls me to be a VIP - and I am not in the car biz.
He's an arrogant, megalomaniac, (knows everything) anencephalic, (born without a brain) *******.
So sue me! Hey Peter - are you listening to your customers? There's a couple of thousand of us on this forum with money to burn..........

You know, and not to talk **** because I know that RotorSports visits this board and they already hate me, but I know someone who had a car done by them recently and wasn't very satisfied. The car was in for a rebuild and port ... ended up being late, out of tune, and he asked for certain things to be switched that weren't (swap one turbo for another, etc). He also had a nice oil leak and the filler neck wasn't properly reinstalled. He also said they did something funny with his rotors or something ... showing him "bad" ones that he knew couldn't have been his or something like that. They may be "friendly" ... but so was that dood on Franklin Street today trying to give me LSD stickers. That's the first negative thing I've really heard about RotorSports, but I've wondered if maybe some people are quiet about them since they do visit these boards. Or it may have just been a fluke ... they seem nice enough. I'm not trying to be mean -- I'm just sharing information. Personally I won't take my car there or anywhere else because at this point the only person in the automotive world that I trust is me.

Jeez DK - don't you know that EVERYONE hates you? (except yo MAMA!) Damn, I can't believe there is actually someone out there more cynical than me when it comes to trusting somebody else to work on our cars. God bless DIY's!:1party:
