There is no way a FD will ever "dominate" a Viper (unless every part is replaced in the FD) - and you really can't even say the FD can beat the Viper on a track - autocross yeah, but other than that even a stock Viper will stay with a FD in the turns and pull away with it's torque in the straights. The new Vipers run 11.7 at 123 on street tires. I don't know of many FDs that can break into the 11s on street tires. The guy that bought my FD had a Viper even with 380rwhp in the FD - it would never "dominate" the Viper. There is a point where enough torque will win most races. You figure a full bolt-on, streetported FD with BNR 3s running 17 psi will pull over 400 rwhp and get you 125 traps but that still doesn't dominate a Viper - only slightly pull it. Now the 600-700 rwhp FDs - that's different.

Vipers dont trap 123. Your getting the specs mixed up with the COMPETITION VIPER which you will never see on the street cause Dodge only sells them to race teams. They tested one in Car and Driver and it ran 11.8@123. The test can be found here....

A stock Viper traps 115-116mph, a well tuned 3rd gen can run and Viper and most of the other cars mentioned with no problems on the stock turbos with bolt on's

Here is the info on the regular showroom floor 2003 Viper (unchanged for 2004)

My point was that many people automatically assume that a V8 swap throws off the balance, handling, and weight distribution of the car, (without any concrete proof, mind you, but they just know it has to, because all those cubic inches simply must weigh more...) yet no one ever questions a 20B swap simply because it's a rotary, and therefore it's fine if it has all the same drawbacks. It's a double-standard that makes no logical sense, not that I expect to see a lot of either one displayed on this forum.

It wasn't my intent to imply that there was anything wrong with your 20B swap (or any 20B swap, for that matter). I was just joking around about the on-going weight distribution dispute surrounding V8 swaps, because even if the weights of the two engines were equal, you obviously have a big single turbo and FMIC hanging in front of your engine that I and others with V8s don't.
Good points, Jim. You know I am one of the V8 "questioners", but I certainly agree with your 20B comments. If I was ever going to swap the engine, it would be a difficult decision, but in many ways, a V8 would be more suitable than a 20B at that point. Seeing as how I doubt I will ever swap engines, it probably won't be a decision for me...

Hey Stephen. It looks the new Vipers ARE trapping in the low 120s now that they are broken in. I have seen GTS Vipers trapping between 117 and 119.

In any case, they are very fast cars and it would take a heavily modded FD to pull significantly on one.

And for all the people that say a modded FD will dominate the Viper on a road coarse -- it's obvious you have never been to a road event.

Yea, never said anything about a road event. Its just not my thing, I've never even been on a road course. Really though, from what I've seen it seems like driver is more important than the car.

I think on this a Viper and Vette has going for it that we dont is that HUGE wide *** tires. I'd imagine for racing applications with pro drivers, ect that our small tires would be quite a limiting factor or a road course.
