Question Do you guys ever render your ideas for custom work?

Hey, I'm new to the board. My name's Rahul.

My dad's buying me a sports car this summer, basically I had 4 different choices; Nissan 350z, Toyota Supra, Honda S2000, and Mazda RX7.

My dad already has a Nissan 300zx, so I was pretty familiar with Nissans when I started doing my research. I wont go into the details of how I got where I am today, but after looking over the 4 different cars, weighing the advantages and disadvantages, and what I'm gonna be doing to the one I'll be buying, I decided to get an RX7.

I joined this message board a few weeks ago so I could start gathering information on the RX7 and so I can learn as much as I can before I actually get the car.

Well it's a long wait from now until the summer, so I started rendering some of my ideas for future plans. Basically it's so I can get an idea of how I want the car to look as well as how much it will cost to get it there. I was wondering whether any of you guys did this.

Everyone and their grandmother has seen this picture. The picture for the scoot racing hood.

I like the design of the scoot racing hood, but with a few modifications to the design I think it could be made alot better. So I photoshoped it to what I would like it to look like...

I took out the exaust vents and made the intake vent bigger, I moved it back some as well. I also blacked out the lights because it gives the car a more polished and aerodynamic look. This may take away from the functionality of the hood because of the lack of exaust vents, in that case some GT40 style vents behind the intake vent wouldn't look too bad.

What do you think? If you have some renditions of your own show them to everybody!

[edit] - I cant get the pictures to work or post urls of them and I dont know how to attach files so I'll just put the URLs here:

If you want to see them just cut and past into the address bar of your browser and click go. Sorry.

Your dad is buying the car for you? Please don't get the 7. People who don't earn stuff on their own tend not to appreciate or take care of it. My apologies if you don't fit the stereotype, but you got to realize how spoiled you sound.

Talking

I remember my first car back in 1988. It was a 2 year old, 4 door, Silver, Ford Tempo (but it did have a manual transmission ). I paid $5k for the car cause I couldn't afford anything more than that and I didn't want to wait another full year to save any more money. I can't even imagine my Dad buying a car like the ones this kid has listed. Hell, hindsite being what it is, I'm glad I didn't have a car with the power potential that these cars have at that age. I just didn't have the driving experience to handle these kind of cars and I did plenty of stupid stuff in the good ol' Tempo that I still can't believe I lived through.

I'd like to do the exact same thing to model a rear wing for my car.
I want to end up with something with no flat surfaces on it, unlike most 'ironing board' wings I've seen. The Z map of the rendered object can be use to carve the start of a mold for the piece too.

What package did you use to model-render?

Nice job on the comp !

I'd advise to put your flame suit on if you tell anybody else your dad is buying the car for you.

I never got any flames. He's only gotten one real flame so far. If I were gonna flame him, then I'd say something about him being interested in costum rice and associating the FD with the Nissan 350z, Toyota Supra, and Honda S2000. If you do get a Rex, please treat her gingerly. Do yourself and everyone else a favor by not wrecking it.
