A water injection waistgate?

No, waistgates don't burn up. They are inside of your turbos. They have been known to stick open though.

Apexi (i think) makes a water cooled wastegate. After some time, the excessive heat is hard on all the exhaust parts. Their thinking is that if it is cooler, the internal seals will last longer.

Stock wastegates are known to crack, well, the sealing surfaces anyway because mazda didn't use enough nickle in the castings.

Apex does make one. They feature it on their D1 drift RX-7. I think it is not a bad idea considering some of the other mods people suggest. Im sure if you call Apex, they will give you some insight into why they use it.

I have NEVER heard of anyone doing this with the stock twins. I would be willing to bet the rest of the turbo assembly gives out before you have wastegate issues 90% of the time.

The wastegate isn't going to melt or "burn-up", jeez.

I swear, some people just go looking for trouble....

the exhaust can be hot enough to able to melt the wastegate or something... but if your using stock turbos like rynberg says, probably not.

Never melted a stock wastegate. However, the metal AROUND the wastegate hole...that will crack causing you to have late boost i.e. 7000rpms is when you'll reach full boost.

For all you newbs: All aftermarket wastegates that can be used on car are for single turbo conversions only and can not be used with the stock twins.

p.s., spelling has never been my strong point.

Wastegates are not "in" the turbos. They are generally attached to the turbine housing (internal wastegate) or exhaust manifold (external wastegate).

I believe people are concerned that the diaphragm inside the wastegate may melt due to high heat. It sounds like a design issue to me though.

Mine is stuck close, but it's probably due to all the burnt fuel and oil stuck around the valve. Just needs some good cleaning.
