Do i need a Fuel pump?

hey guys, i have a Down pipe, mid pipe, and HKS super dragger cat back.

i bought a intake today with polished alum lines, and 2 K&N filters.

Im thinking i should get a Fuel pump, but im not 100% sure if i have to do it yet. I havnt installed the intake yet, im going to wait until i know if i need a fuel pump or not. thanks allot.

Also if i do, what would be a wise choice?

thanks to all,

-Mark

A common favorite is the Walbro 255lph.

However, with your mods, I do not believe you NEED a fuel pump. If you are running stock injectors and ECU, it would be a mod "just to mod".

The stock pump is sufficient for stock boost level.

If you plan on continuing to mod your car I personally would do it just to get it out of the way. MADDSLOW named the most commonly used pump used amongst 7 owners.

If you are still at stock 10 PSI, then no. A larger fuel pump will not provide more fuel on it's own if everything is working properly (unless there is a problem like a failing or overrun Fuel Pressure Regulator).

Like it was said above you don't NEED it, but it is a simple thing to get out of the way if you intend on modifying further. Pumps are relitively cheap and take about 30 min to install.

....Though with the mods that you mentioned I do hope that you have added more fuel by some means (PowerFC, modified ECU, or some other way). If not you are going to be running a tad lean...

Boost creep is a biotch. Im talking from experience. I put my dp, mp, and intake system on and blew my car up within 2 months. Don't be surprised if you see boost spikes toward the 14-18psi range. This can be deadly to your motor.

I personally prefer the supra pump over the walbro. If you plan to make anything over 290-300 rwhp, definitely look into upgrading the pump. One thing to consider: these cars are getting older, and personally I feel a lot better blasting down the highway with a newer fuel pump vs one from 1992.

true, all reliability mods, help in some way. Better piece of mind.

I don't spike, or creep. Cause of my HKS exhaust, its quite restrictive.

More restrictive than stock, from what I've read...

Wow, that's almost hard to believe. Which HKS exhaust is this? And if it is in fact more restrictive than stock, why even bother?

The original version of the HKS Dragger was very restrictive.

Are you using a wideband to keep an eye on this? If not it is another good investment. "Running rich" on an RX7 is quite different than other cars. A/F ratios run a bit lower on the rotary.

I am with Rich on the supra (nippondenso) fuel pump as well. That is what I have in my car and really they are only $200 so again one of the cheapest mods to do on the car.

That is interesting on the lack of spiking and creeping. I had one of those spikes last night to about 16psi. Currently I am troubleshooting a problem with my profecB SpecII so it wasn't connected.
