Disappering oil?

ok so i drove back to SJ today(200 mile trip) and before i left, i checked the oil as i always do. it was right in the middle where its supposed to be.

anyway, when i got to my destination 200 miles later, there was barely anyoil the stick! turns out it ate half a quart.

i know my turbos are leaking a bit of oil, but not posiibly 1/2 a quarts worth. any idea where all this oil is going? i travel a lot in this car, and it usually doesnt burn this much oil.

there is 93k on the motor, and so far no symptoms of a bad motor. idles fine and gets 15-16 vaccum. i checked the IC pipes and there is minimal oil probably due to blow by.

thanx for any info.

MOP stuck open?
Leak?
Other than that, I'd say it's your oil hungry turbos.

How many miles are on your turbos?
How smokey is your exhaust at idle?
How smokey is your exhaust when throttled?
More smoke when your car is hot?

Have you tried revving a bunch of times while parked and then checking under the car for oil?

Hope it's not the engine that's using the oil.

What do you mean the 1/2 mark? It should be up to the full mark on the dipstick. Oil usage is not constant. If you're heavy on the throttle it can use more than when you're just cruising. So going from half full to the low mark in 200 miles may be greater than usual oil consumption, but it doesn't necessarily indicate you have a serious problem. Fill it up then monitor your consumption.

hmm...i could be wrong, but i always thought the 1/2 way mark was the "just right" area .

fill to the top, which would mean full.

From the top to the bottom of the hatched area on the dipstick is 1.7 quarts, I believe the little light on the oil pressure gauge will illuminate if you are more than 1qt low. Some people advocate running a little lower than full on the dipstick, I forget what the exact reasoning was but it had to do with oil getting into the intake tract when you run hard. A lot of good info can be found here - http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/oil.html

Never overfill the oil.
