Is the dipstick supposed to have o-rings?

I've noticed that my dipstick has a moulded top by the ring, but there's no rubber o-ring - it looks like there should be. My dipstick is so easy to push in and pull out it requires almost no pressure to pull it out of its place - i've currently got it zip tied to a nearby hose so it'll stay in place! My next plan of action was going to be to cap it and carry my disptick around with me in the trunk! (I actually had to do this to my mustang, don't ask)

Yes, I'm sure I'm putting it in the right spot - unless there's another tube that leads from the engine and every time I stick my dipstick in there I can see an oil trace that goes up to the full mark ...

is oil coming out? or is the dipstick being pushed out? Someone posted this means you have a blown side seal.

My stick (heh) has a molded top, but the molded part that fits into the tube has a few molded ridges, giving the same effect as a few stacked o-rings.

I noticed that the dipstick was being unseated every now and then so I zip tied it so nothing (ie dirt) could fall into the tube. I think I get a little oil coming out every now and then as well - either that or it's oil from my last oil change (that's the craziest oil filter mounting I've ever seen)
