Digital Speedos

I got a Pivot digital speedometer that comes with the car, it reads lower than my normal speedometer, which one is more accurate.

why?

where is the digital speedometer getting its signal from? hell for all he knows they could BOTH be incorrect, the best way to tell is grab a GPS and go for a spin!

I use the pivot sml-x. From what i understand, it gets the signal from the ecu.

from a turbo timer's nature its not accurate.. to get accuracy and quality you need to spend more than just a turbo timer

A) you are simply assuming your factory speedometer is calibrated correctly, which is actually not that common.
B) you're also assuming the TT's speedo is incorrect... which may or may not be true.

do you know where the TT get's it signal for the vehicle speed? I would imagine it's the same place as the factory speedometer...

Regardless if you can get your hands on a GPS unit toss it in and compare the two, I've used my GPS in ~4 vehicles and the only one that was spot on was my truck. My grandmas passat reads 5mph slow! Moms truck read 2mph fast... you'd be suprised...

plus the gps signal is lagged a few seconds. probably good for top speed measure etc but not for real time speed. unless u put cruise on to see if your speedo and gps match up !

[QUOTE=JHew84;7883584]A) you are simply assuming your factory speedometer is calibrated correctly, which is actually not that common.
B) you're also assuming the TT's speedo is incorrect... which may or may not be true.

the tt gets the engine speed signal from the ecu...

im pretty sure my needle is accurate because i compared it to 2006 altima with same wheel diameter,,, i drove my car and my buddy drove next to me we both hit 40 and were right next to each other.....so i think my speedometer is accurate....i hope.
