Differences: JDM vs. USDM main engine harness

Are the wiring harnesses from a USDM car interchangeable with those from a JDM car?

I may have to find one and compare them, searching for this is starting to give me a headache.

RHDJapan.com has the Japanese market harness. I asked them if it was compatible and they claim it is the same.

i forgot about this but when i was in high school, a friends dad had an fd the first one i ever seen honestly.. and he popped his motor and he bought a jdm motor from japan. it had wiring and everything with it.. it was idential to the one he took out... duh i cant believe i forgot about that.

by the way that fd i just mentioned.. well its no longer with us... someone stole it and it was found a few days later in a rivine burnt to a crisp!

harness

the problem with the wiring harness between the jdm and usdm is that the computers are mounted in the opposit locations. the jdm is mounted on the left kick panel. the routing would be completly different so unless you want to mount you computer on the opposite car, do not get one.

Do not get one eh? I should just fork out a shitload of money for a new one?

In any case, you were right about them being not exactly the same. I just came across this thread

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...light=JDM+Swap

but it seems to me that it shouldn't be too much of a problem to modify the harness to work.

Doesnt the USDM harness have all the emissions related crap that the JDM cars dont have?

^-- yes, they do.

Also, the 96-02 JDM ECU was 16bit, so any wiring harness not from a 92-95 will not work. And from a 92-95, I'd imagine the harness would be backwards...It'd probably have longer cables for some things and cables that are too short for others. What's the problem with buying a USDM harness again?

Problem is availability and price. The harness is somewhat backwards, but from what I've read so far it's not too much work to make it fit. My car has all of the emissions crap removed when the PFC was installed anyways, so that is not an issue.

bullshit. it works. theres just a small problem with the way it is bent behind the uim on the firewall side. and you have to extend one of the wires.. think its the oil pressure sender wire..

Yeah I've done it before, you just have to unbolt a couple clips then route the harness to the other side but they are pretty much the same lengths, plus you have to re-pin about 6 or so to mate it to your usdm ecu. Not a big deal though. Also depends what version motor you get 92-95 isn't that heard. There is a thread I made a while back covering this. You also have to redo your throttle assembly to make it work.
